A case has been filed against him under Sections 294 (obscene acts) and Section 509 (punishment for word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), reported by The Indian Express. Additionally, he has been charged under Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, according to Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police, Harcharan Singh Bhullar. The commission has requested that the song should be banned in the state for its objectionable lyrics.

Punjabi rapper Honey Singh has again courted a controversy for lewd lyrics in his new song Makhna. Taking a suo moto cognizance, Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati said she has written to the Director General of Police to register a criminal case against the singer for using lyrics like "Mein hoon womaniser (I am a womaniser)".

"Legal action and an inquiry is required to be initiated by the police on the matter as the song readied by T-series chairman Bhushan Kumar and singers Honey Singh and Neha Kakkar uses vulgar words against women," she said in a communique.

In his same interview, Yo Yo Honey Singh claimed that he wasn't behind the infamous songs Volume 1 and Volume 2. When asked about it, he said, "Kaunsa gaana gaa diya maine." He said he was falsely associated with the song.

"Maine ladkiyan dekhi hain charas bharti hui in 2009 in Delhi. Main dilli aata tha vo charas bhar rahi hoti thi. That's why I wrote the song, 'Enna vi na dope shope maareya karo'. Main uss ladki ko mana kar raha hun ki dope shope mat kar," he said and added that people protested against it.

He also mentioned the lyrics of song Dekha Ek Khwab Toh Ye Silsile Hue. "Female singer in the song says, 'Phool bhi ho darmiyaan to faasle hue'. Ladki keh rahi hai ki mujhse itna chipak ja ki phool bhi na aaye beech mein... kya hai ye?"

Forget the empowering and enlightening lyrics of Gully Boy. Forget rap-stresses like Lilly Singh who call out sexism. One song from Honey Singh and we are back to the regressive, sexist mindset of the time when songs like Main Hu Balatkaari were released.

Snippets from that interview have gone viral on social media. Many fans called him self-aware and were glad that the singer had some realisation and awareness. While others said that those songs worked because they were simple and catchy. On the other hand, a handful of people called this a publicity stunt by Honey Singh to make people listen to his newer songs. 17dc91bb1f
