On December 8, 2024, after the Advent Recollection, the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominican Chapter joyfully continued a cherished tradition with the annual exchange of Compañero del Año cards. This meaningful event brings the community together, strengthening the bonds of faith and prayer as we prepare for the coming year.
Each Compañero del Año card holds special significance, containing the name of a prayer partner to support in prayer throughout the year, the name of our assigned patron saint to inspire us, and the names of deceased Dominicans for whom we offer our prayers. These cards serve as a reminder of our shared commitment to prayer, community, and spiritual growth as we walk together in the Dominican charism.
This gathering is more than a tradition; it is a reflection of our deep faith, reinforcing the unity of our Chapter as we continue to serve and support one another. In this sacred exchange, we uphold the Dominican call to prayer, study, and apostolate, fostering a deeper connection to God and to each other.
As we enter the Jubilee Year 2025, the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans look forward to a year filled with grace, blessings, and renewed strength in our shared mission. May we continue to grow in faith, joy, and unity as we journey together as a community of lay apostles of hope.

The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in the Advent Recollection, held on December 8, 2024, which was led by the Reverend Dom Pio Francisco, OSB. With the theme, “Lay Apostles of Hope: Shedding Light on the Busy Yet Empty Lives in a Troubled World,” the day provided a profound opportunity for reflection, prayer, and spiritual renewal.
Throughout the event, Reverend Dom Pio guided us through a journey of self-examination and spiritual awakening, inviting us to reflect on the challenges of our modern world — a world often marked by busyness and emptiness. In his insightful reflections, he emphasized how, in our fast-paced lives, we often forget to pause and invite Christ’s light to illuminate the darkness of our hearts and the world around us. He called upon us to be true lay apostles of hope, carrying the message of Christ into our daily lives and sharing His love with those who are lost or suffering.
The day was filled with deep spiritual moments, from meaningful reflections to heartfelt prayers. As a community, we reflected on how to truly embody our call as lay apostles, understanding that our actions, words, and prayers have the power to transform the world. The recollection reminded us of the importance of slowing down, turning inward, and seeking Christ’s presence in the midst of life’s many distractions.
Through his powerful words, Reverend Dom Pio led us to a renewed sense of hope, urging each of us to be a beacon of Christ’s light in our communities. He reminded us that even in a troubled world, we are called to bring peace and joy to others, not by grand gestures, but through simple acts of kindness, prayer, and living out our faith with authenticity and love.
As we enter into the Advent season, may the lessons we learned from this recollection inspire us to live more intentionally — embracing Christ’s light in our own lives and sharing that light with others. Let this Advent be a time of renewal, where we open our hearts to the hope and joy that Christ brings, and reflect that hope to the world around us.
We thank Reverend Dom Pio Francisco, OSB, for his insightful guidance and spiritual wisdom. May his words continue to resonate in our hearts, leading us to a deeper relationship with Christ and a more purposeful Advent season.

In light of the impending threat of Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi), the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans announced the cancellation of their November monthly meeting, originally scheduled for today. The typhoon, which was expected to make landfall over Metro Manila, prompted the decision to prioritize the safety and well-being of all members.
The typhoon, which had intensified in the days leading up to November 17, was predicted to bring heavy rains and strong winds to the region, creating hazardous conditions. Given the safety concerns and the potential disruptions caused by the storm, the leadership decided to err on the side of caution by cancelling the meeting.
Members of the Chapter were urged to stay informed about weather updates and to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the storm. The Chapter leadership expressed its regret for the cancellation but emphasized that the decision was made with the safety of the community in mind.
The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans remain committed to continuing their mission of prayer, study, and apostolate despite the disruption, and they look forward to rescheduling the meeting once conditions allow.
As Typhoon Pepito (Man-yi) approaches, we ask all members and their families to pray for everyone’s safety and well-being during this challenging time.
Stay safe and may God’s protection be upon us all.

Today, on the Feast of All Dominican Saints, members of the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans gathered in solemn veneration to honor the sacred relics of our beloved Dominican saints, including a special relic of St. Dominic himself. The event was a profound moment of prayer, reflection, and gratitude as we remembered the holy men and women who have faithfully embodied the Dominican charism throughout history.
The day was marked by deep reverence as the relics were displayed for veneration, allowing the community to draw closer to the rich legacy of the Dominican Order. Through this act of devotion, we were reminded of the saintly lives that continue to inspire us to live the Gospel with joy, zeal, and humility, as we strive to reflect the light of Christ in our daily lives.
In his inspiring message, Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, our religious assistant and provincial vicar, encouraged the attendees to progress in the spiritual life by remaining steadfast in prayer and reflection. He reminded everyone of the importance of deepening one’s relationship with God, and how this is vital for the mission of preaching the Gospel and serving others.
The event also featured a special thanks to Fr. Matthias Nga Reh, OP, parish priest of the Santuario del Sto. Cristo, for graciously allowing us to hold this sacred event at the parish. We are deeply grateful for his support and for the welcoming space that enabled our community to gather in prayer.
A special mention was made for Fr. Luis Sierra, OP, who graced the occasion with his presence, and we are thankful for his continued guidance and presence in the community.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the team of the Apostolate Committee, led by Mr. John Carlo Recto, OP, for organizing the event. Their dedication and hard work made this day of veneration and reflection possible, and we are deeply grateful for their efforts in fostering a spirit of community and devotion.
Through the intercession of our Dominican saints, may we continue to preach the Gospel joyfully, as they did, and bring the light of Christ to the world.

The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans observed the Triduum in honor of St. Martin de Porres, a beloved saint and patron of humility, charity, and compassion. This Triduum, held over three mornings, was marked by a unique departure from the general practice of beginning three days before a feast day.
Unlike most tridua, which traditionally start before the feast day, the Triduum for St. Martin de Porres uniquely commenced on his feast day itself, November 3. This adjustment honors the liturgical solemnities of All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2), allowing the community to fully commemorate those significant days before transitioning to celebrate St. Martin.
Each day of the Triduum began with the celebration of the Holy Mass, providing participants an opportunity to unite in the Eucharist and reflect on the virtues of St. Martin.
The morning prayers included the praying of Lauds, creating a sacred and reflective atmosphere as the community joined in the Liturgy of the Hours. The Triduum prayers followed, invoking the intercession of St. Martin, whose life of service and trust in God continues to inspire countless faithful.
Participants also prayed the Holy Rosary, entrusting their intentions to the Blessed Virgin Mary and seeking her guidance in living a life of holiness, as exemplified by St. Martin.
One heartfelt prayer to St. Martin de Porres during the Triduum was:
“St. Martin de Porres, you always had sympathy for the poor and the suffering. We need your help and now ask for it with great confidence in your goodness and power. Please remember us as you adore God. Amen.”
This uniquely timed Triduum allowed the community to deeply reflect on St. Martin’s virtues, even as they honored the solemnity of preceding liturgical days. The gathering served as a powerful spiritual preparation, inspiring members to live with humility, generosity, and a heart open to the needs of others.
As the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans continue their journey of faith, they remain inspired by St. Martin’s enduring example of love and service. May his life of holiness guide and bless all who invoke his name.
Viva, St. Martin de Porres! Ora pro nobis!

The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans gathered today for their regular monthly recollection and meeting, a time of prayer, reflection, and communal growth. The event featured an inspiring preaching by Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, whose message centered on trust, patience, and unity within the faith community.
Fr. Raymond emphasized the importance of inviting others to Christ and trusting that once they encounter Him, Christ will guide and care for them in their spiritual journey. He encouraged members to be steadfast in their mission of evangelization, reminding them that while their role is to plant the seeds of faith, the fruits of conversion are the work of Christ.
A key theme of Fr. Raymond’s preaching was the virtue of patience, which he described as essential for remaining faithful amidst life’s challenges. He urged the Chapter members to remain steadfast and hopeful, even when results are not immediately visible, as patience is a reflection of trust in God’s divine timing.
In addition, Fr. Raymond drew from the Rule of St. Augustine, reflecting on an article that underscores the necessity of unity within the community. He reminded the group that unity is not only a foundation of Christian living but also a powerful testament to the Gospel. By fostering mutual love and support, members can strengthen their commitment to living out the Gospel and sharing it with others.
The gathering concluded with renewed determination to grow as a united community of Lay Dominicans, living in harmony and faithfully serving the mission entrusted to them.
As the Chapter moves forward, may its members continue to embody the virtues of trust, patience, and unity, inspired by the timeless teachings of Christ and the Dominican tradition.

History was made today as the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans and Kadang Dominiko successfully hosted the first-ever Rosary Conference, a landmark event dedicated to deepening devotion to the Holy Rosary. Held under the theme, “The Holy Rosary: Source of Hope and Means of Salvation,” the program brought together a diverse group of faithful from various communities to explore the power and significance of the Rosary as a spiritual tool of hope and redemption.
The day began at 8:00 AM with the registration of participants, who were warmly welcomed by the organizers. The opening remarks set the tone for the conference, as the audience was introduced to the event’s theme and inspired to reflect on the enduring relevance of the Holy Rosary in their lives.
The conference officially commenced with Conference 1, titled “Mary, Mother of Hope: The Power and History of the Holy Rosary.” Delivered by Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, this talk explored the origins and evolution of the Rosary, tracing its historical roots and demonstrating its role as a source of strength and hope for believers throughout centuries.
After a short break for refreshments, the program resumed with Conference 2, “Mary, Queen of Confessors: Living the Mysteries of the Rosary as a Path to Holiness.” Presented by Professor Joan Christi Trocio-Bagaipo , this session illuminated how meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary leads to a deeper understanding of Christ’s life and fosters a path toward holiness.
A key highlight of the event was the Communal Recitation of the Holy Rosary, where representatives from all participating communities—including the Kadang Dominiko, Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans, Religious Missionaries, Dominican Sisters of Bl. Imelda, and Dominican Friars—each led a mystery. This shared moment of prayer demonstrated the unifying power of the Rosary in fostering communal faith and devotion.
The celebration culminated with the Holy Mass, where the homily served as a powerful call to action, urging participants to integrate the Rosary into their daily lives as a means of encountering Christ and building a life centered on faith and love. Confession was also made available during the event, offering attendees a chance for spiritual renewal.
In the final moments, heartfelt gratitude was extended to the organizers, speakers, and participants during the closing remarks, followed by group photos to commemorate this historic gathering.
This inaugural Rosary Conference has left an indelible mark on all who attended, serving as a profound reminder of the Rosary’s role as a source of hope and a means of salvation. The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans and Kadang Dominiko have set a remarkable precedent, inspiring others to foster devotion and unity through similar initiatives.
To Mary, Mother of Hope, we entrust our prayers and intentions. Viva la Virgen!

The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans gathered for their regular September Chapter Meeting, a spiritually enriching occasion marked by prayer, meditation, and reflection on the Gospel. As always, the meeting began with the praying of Lauds, a cherished tradition that sets the tone for the day by uniting the community in the Liturgy of the Hours.
This month’s meeting featured a special mental prayer and meditation on the week’s Gospel passage from the Book of Mark, in which Our Lord delivers a profound teaching on true greatness in the Kingdom of God:
“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35)
The Gospel reflection challenged attendees to reconsider worldly notions of greatness and ambition, offering instead a vision rooted in humility, service, and selflessness. In his homily, the presiding friar expounded on the Gospel’s message, emphasizing that true greatness lies in the willingness to place others before oneself and to serve with a heart full of love and compassion. He encouraged everyone to seek opportunities to embody these virtues in their daily lives, reminding them that servant leadership is a hallmark of Christian discipleship.
The meditation session provided a time for personal introspection, allowing members to ponder how they can better live out the Gospel’s call in their respective vocations. Quiet moments of prayer and reflection offered an opportunity to align their hearts and minds with Christ’s example of humility and selfless service.
The meditation was followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary, a devotion deeply rooted in the Dominican charism and a source of inspiration for all members.
As the meeting drew to a close, members were encouraged to carry the Lord’s words into their daily lives, committing to actions that reflect His teaching. Whether through small acts of kindness, active participation in apostolic works, or intentional efforts to prioritize others’ needs, the Chapter reaffirmed its mission to live as true followers of Christ.
This month’s gathering served not only as a time of prayer and community but also as a reminder of the transformative power of humility and service. May we, as a Chapter, continue to grow in faith and love, inspired by Our Lord’s example, and strive to embody the greatness of the Kingdom of God in our thoughts, words, and deeds.

The Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans marked the culmination of their 75th-anniversary celebration with a solemn and joyous closing program, held today at the Priory of the Holy Cross. The event commemorated decades of faith-filled service and community building, honoring the Chapter’s journey while looking ahead with renewed commitment to its mission.
The highlight of the program was the concelebrated Holy Mass, presided over by the Dominican friars of the Priory of the Holy Cross. The Eucharistic celebration set the tone for the day, as the community gathered in prayer and thanksgiving for the Chapter’s rich legacy and the blessings received over the past 75 years. The homily called on attendees to continue embodying the Dominican charism of prayer, study, and apostolic work, inspired by the life and teachings of St. Dominic.
In a significant and historic moment, the Chapter introduced the Regina Sacratissimi Awards, an initiative to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of their partners in apostolic service. The inaugural awardees were the men and women who have played a vital role in the administration and operations of the St. Martin de Porres Charity Hospital. This included generous donors, compassionate nurses, and dedicated doctors, all of whom have tirelessly supported the hospital’s mission to provide healthcare to those in need.
The awardees were lauded for their selfless service, which exemplifies the spirit of charity and solidarity central to the Dominican mission. In her acceptance speech, one of the honorees, a long-time nurse at the hospital, expressed gratitude for the recognition and shared her joy in being part of the hospital's transformative work.
The celebration concluded with a warm and lively Agape—a communal meal symbolizing fellowship and unity. Members, awardees, and guests shared stories, laughter, and reflections on the Chapter’s milestones and aspirations for the future. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and camaraderie, as participants renewed their commitment to the Chapter’s mission of service and evangelization.
As the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans close this chapter of their 75th anniversary, they move forward with hearts full of hope and determination. The day’s events served as a powerful reminder of the impact of shared faith and collective action, and the community looks forward to continuing its journey as a beacon of light and truth in the years to come.

Today, our monthly chapter meeting was a truly enriching and spiritually uplifting experience, filled with moments of grace, learning, and community. We were privileged to have not just one, but two preachers join us for the day’s events. Fr. Saw Justin Kaung Hbown Myint, OP led us in a heartfelt and thought-provoking recollection, guiding us to reflect deeply on the Gospel reading for the week. The passage focused on decisions and commitments, challenging us to examine how our choices align with our faith and the call to follow Christ more closely.
In addition to this spiritual nourishment, we were further blessed by the presence of Fr. Virgilio Ojoy, OP, who facilitated a study session on the method of St. Thomas Aquinas in discovering the truth. Through his insightful presentation, we were reminded of the intellectual rigor and profound faith of the Angelic Doctor, who sought to harmonize reason and revelation. Fr. Ojoy’s engaging discourse encouraged us to adopt St. Thomas’s method of careful discernment, humility, and unwavering pursuit of truth in our own spiritual and intellectual journeys.
The day served as a beautiful blend of spiritual reflection and intellectual renewal. Through the Gospel meditation, we were called to assess the commitments we make in our lives and how these commitments reflect our dedication to God’s will. The study on St. Thomas Aquinas inspired us to deepen our love for truth, recognizing that the journey toward understanding is a sacred endeavor that brings us closer to God.
As we concluded this blessed day, we were reminded of the importance of coming together as a chapter to grow in faith, knowledge, and community. Days like this reaffirm our mission as Lay Dominicans to live out the Dominican charism of prayer, study, community, and apostolic service.
We thank God for the gift of this meeting and for the wisdom shared by our esteemed preachers. May we carry the lessons learned today into our daily lives, striving always to make decisions rooted in faith and seeking truth with the same passion and dedication exemplified by St. Thomas Aquinas.

Today, we joyfully celebrate the solemnity of St. Dominic de Guzman, the founder of the Order of Preachers, by reflecting on his extraordinary life of faith, relentless dedication, and unwavering commitment to proclaiming the Gospel. St. Dominic’s mission was a radiant testament to joyful and compassionate preaching, as he sought to illuminate the hearts and minds of all with the light of truth, reaching even the farthest corners of the world.
As sons and daughters of St. Dominic, the Sto. Rosario Lay Dominicans gathered to honor his profound legacy. In his spirit, we strive to emulate his virtues and bring his vision to life in our own time. This special day began with the communal praying of the Divine Office in honor of our founder, followed by a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Alfonso Bobo, OP. These sacred moments allowed us to unite in prayer and thanksgiving for the gift of St. Dominic’s life and mission.
St. Dominic’s charism continues to resonate powerfully within our lives. We encourage everyone to embrace his spirit of study, prayer, community, and apostolate—the pillars of the Dominican way. In our pursuit of these ideals, we aim to become beacons of hope and instruments of peace, embodying the love and truth of Christ in all we do.
As we reflect on St. Dominic’s example, let us be inspired to preach not only with our words but also through our actions. May his unwavering commitment to seeking understanding through study and nurturing a vibrant spiritual life through prayer guide us on our own journeys of faith.
On this Feast Day of St. Dominic, let us renew our commitment to his vision and mission. Together, may we continue to shine the light of Christ in our world, carrying forward the enduring legacy of the man who dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel.
Happy Feast Day of St. Dominic!
July 28, 2024
The Chapter gathered today for its 6th Regular Recollection and Meeting, a time for reflection, prayer, and community-building.
Fr. Gregory Zhang, OP, delivered an inspiring homily, emphasizing that forgiveness should never be forced, as doing so undermines the true freedom inherent in the act. Instead, he explained, forgiveness becomes attainable when we come to understand that we are deeply and unconditionally loved by God. This realization, Fr. Gregory shared, is the foundation upon which authentic forgiveness can flourish, allowing us to heal and extend grace to others.
In addition to the spiritual reflections, the meeting also saw an update from the Finance Committee. They introduced a range of newly released merchandise, thoughtfully designed to help raise funds for the Chapter’s initiatives. These items serve as both a means of financial support and a way for members to share their pride and connection to the community.
As we strive together toward greater heights, we are reminded of our call: Verso l’alto, Sto. Rosario!

Today, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Lay Dominicans of the Philippine Province for organizing the Assembly of Lay Dominicans under the umbrella of the Philippine Province! We are especially grateful that the Lay Dominicans of the Province of Our Lady of the Rosary had the privilege of participating as observers.
We pray that all who attended the National Assembly leave with renewed zeal and a deeper commitment to living out the Dominican charism. May the enthusiasm, insights, and spiritual fruits gained from this event empower us to carry the light of Christ's love and truth into our communities, revitalizing the world around us.

Today, our Chapter gathered for the 5th monthly meeting of the year, a moment of fellowship and spiritual growth. After our meeting, we were blessed with an enlightening and thought-provoking talk by Fr. Raymond Mi, O.P., who guided us through the remarkable life and legacy of St. Thomas Aquinas.
Fr. Raymond's insights into the life of this great theologian and philosopher were both enriching and inspiring. He illuminated how St. Thomas, through his devotion to truth and the Church, shaped the intellectual and spiritual landscape for generations. His teachings continue to challenge and inspire us to seek a deeper understanding of our faith and to live out its truths in our daily lives.
As we reflected on St. Thomas' commitment to reason, faith, and humility, we were reminded of the importance of grounding our lives in both prayer and intellectual pursuit. This powerful reflection serves as a call to deepen our own understanding and devotion, following the example of St. Thomas.
We are grateful to Fr. Raymond for bringing this timeless wisdom to light, and we look forward to applying the lessons we’ve learned as we continue our journey together.

The Chapter marked the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity during its monthly meeting in a special way by warmly welcoming Sr. Aileen and Sr. Clarisse into the Friends of Lay Dominicans (FOLD).
The FOLD was established by the Chapter in August 8, 2023 in response to the 2019 Rule of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic which impliedly repealed the stage of Postulancy, and the General Declarations accompanying the same Rule which provided that those deemed "not prudent that they be admitted to the promise may nevertheless participate in the life of the Fraternity and its permanent formation." The FOLD, then, has dual purpose: it replaces the stage of Postulancy, and it also formalizes the relationship between the Chapter and those not prudent to be admitted to the Chapter.
Let us unite in prayer for Sr. Aileen and Sr. Clarisse, asking that their spiritual journey with the Dominican family be filled with enriching conversations, abundant blessings, and a deep sense of community.

Today, our Chapter joyfully celebrated the Solemnity of St. Catherine of Siena, patroness of all Lay Dominicans, with a beautiful Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Raymond Mi, OP.
Following the Mass, the brothers and sisters participated in a procession to the outdoor statue of St. Catherine, where we prayed the Litany in her honor. The celebration concluded with a simple agape, reflecting the love and unity of our community.
Honoring St. Catherine is a celebration of courage, conviction, and unwavering fidelity to Christian principles. Her life stands as a testament to the transformative power of individual action to inspire and uplift entire communities. Let her example encourage us to boldly stand for what is just, to offer compassion to those in need, and to foster deep bonds of love and solidarity within our own communities.
Blessed Feast Day of St. Catherine of Siena, brothers and sisters! May our Seraphic Mother intercede for us and guide us in living out her powerful legacy of faith and service.
April 28, 2024
Today we celebrate both our third regular meeting of the year and the third day of our triduum in honor of St. Catherine of Siena.
As we reflect on her profound devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we are reminded of her unwavering commitment to prayer, service, and her deep love for the Church.
St. Catherine, whose heart was set ablaze with the love of Christ, teaches us to surrender ourselves completely to God’s will and to be vessels of His grace in the world. Let us follow her example and dedicate our hearts to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, trusting in His love and mercy.
May St. Catherine’s intercession guide and strengthen us in our spiritual journey. As we continue to deepen our relationship with Christ, we pray: St. Catherine, entirely devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pray for us!

We are happy to share that our silent retreat concluded last Sunday, leaving us with hearts full of gratitude and spirits uplifted!
Guided by the method of St. Ignatius of Loyola's Spiritual Exercises, the retreat allowed us to rediscover and appreciate our purpose as children of God, and our vocation and mission as sons and daughters of St. Dominic of Guzman.
The silent retreat also gave us an opportunity to be enriched by longer times of contemplation which is essential to our mission in the world as Lay Dominicans - "contemplare et contemplata aliis tradere."
We are grateful to all who participated, contributed, and supported this retreat materially and spiritually, making it a truly transformative and memorable journey.
Our thanks to Fr. Javier Ruiz of the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE) who directed the retreat, the Canossian Sisters at the Canossa House of Spirituality in Tagaytay for accomodating us and for the good food (!!!), and to Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, Religious Assistant of the Chapter, for accompanying us.
Our special thanks goes to our Chapter's Committee on Liturgy for organizing the event up to the minutest detail!
May the fruits of our contemplation bear fruit in our daily lives.
We entrust the fruits of the Spiritual Exercises to the prayers of Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena.

What an inspiring gathering we had at our second regular meeting of the year!
During the recollection, Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, delivered a powerful talk that challenged us to deepen our spiritual lives. He urged the Rosario Lay Dominicans, especially in this Year of Prayer, to "waste" time before the tabernacle – a call to rediscover the profound sense of adoration that Pope Francis encourages us to embrace. Fr. Raymond also invited us to immerse ourselves in Pope Francis' insightful catechetical teachings on prayer.
A heartfelt thank you to Fr. Raymond! Your words today have truly inspired us and will undoubtedly help us prepare for our Spiritual Exercises next month.

On our first regular meeting in 2024, we were blessed to begin the year with a moving sermon delivered by Fr. Raymond Mi, OP.
The meeting was also graced by the reception of Br. Patrick Rillo into the Friends of Lay Dominicans (FOLD), a significant and joyful moment for our community.
Additionally, we were honored by the presence of two observers, Sr. Aileen and Sr. Clarisse, who joined us for this special occasion.
It was a joy to see everyone gathered together. Let us continue to strive towards greater heights in our faith and service.

The statue of St. Catherine of Siena was unveiled on the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the St. Dominic de Guzman Garden of the Santuario del Sto. Cristo Parish in San Juan.
The statue was sponsored and donated by our sister, Ms. Evelyn del Rosario, OP, to the Parish in commemoration of the 75th founding anniversary of the Lay Dominicans of the Holy Rosary.
The unveiling ceremony was preceded by a Mass concelebrated by the Dominican Fathers of the Holy Cross Convent, and was attended by Cong. Robert Ace Barbers of the 2nd District of Surigao del Norte, and religious sisters from different congregations including: the Religious Missionaries of St. Dominic (Misioneras), Dominican Sisters of Bl. Imelda, Little Sisters of the Poor, Sisters Adorers of the Eucharist, and the Zelatrix Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The guests were all treated to a sumptuous lunch and a delightful musical entertainment courtesy, also, of Sr. Evelyn.
Congratulations to Sr. Evelyn for a succesful project! May God bless your generosity!
And may St. Catherine, principal patroness of all Lay Dominicans, intercede for us!

Today, the Chapter held its annual Advent Recollection with the theme, "Proclaim the Good News Among the Nations: Our God will Come to Save Us." The Recollection was directed by Fr. John Paul Sontillano, OP, of the Sto Domingo Convent in Quezon City.
In his talk, Fr. Sontillano mentioned that we prepare to commemorate the birth of Christ by preparing ourselves for His Second Coming, and that we can only prepare for the Lord's Second Coming if we prepare our hearts to receive Him.
Fr. Sontillano proposed two words to meditate on: closeness and watchfulness.
According to him, we should remind ourselves of the closeness of God with man by His Incarnation; that we should cherish the closeness of God by being grateful recipients and generous bestowers of mercy, which, in turn, is essentially the concrete fulfillment of the Greatest Commandment, i.e., to love God with all our being, and to love others as ourselves.
To sustain this, he proposed that we be watchful; and that to be watchful means to pray and to love. Prayer is an essential element of authentic watchfulness because it is a remedy for mediocrity, i.e., when we pray, we are better disposed to listen to and do God's will. Love is the second essential element of true watchfulness for it cures indifference. Authentic Christian love diffuses, it cannot be closed in on itself.
After the first conference, the Chapter observed silence and prayed the Holy Rosary.
For the second conference, instead of giving a talk, Fr. Sontillano allowed the members of the Chapter to speak to each other and say words of love, gratitude and appreciation. This activity was well-received and greatly appreciated by the participants.
The Recollection ended with the Holy Mass and a simple agape.
Finally Fr. Sontillano generously shared his presentation to the Chapter, and the same may be accessed here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xkXYtZvC-oWVeix5rXEl2ypyZTyA8Y46/view?usp=drive_link
The Chapter thanks Fr. John Paul Sontillano, OP, for his preaching and his testimony.

September 5, 2023
On September 5, 1948, a Sunday, Fr. Narciso Dominguez, OP, Promoter General for the Venerable Orden Tercera (V.O.T.), canonically established the Holy Rosary Chapter of the Lay Dominicans in San Juan in the name of the Prior Provincial. At the time of its establishment, its first Spiritual Director was Fr. Rafael de Diego, OP, and the Chapter's first Prior was Mr. Enrique Fernandez Lumba, OP. At the time of its establishment, the Chapter had 28 members from various localities like San Juan, Mandaluyong, Sta. Mesa, Sto. Domingo in Quezon City, University of Sto. Tomas, and from the six municipalities of Batanes.
This year, we mark the 75th anniversary of that blessed day! We thank God for His Providence in the foundation of the Chapter which has helped the spiritual lives of hundreds of Lay Dominicans. Along with our gratitude to God is the commitment of the current members to continue the Dominican objective of sanctifying oneself and others. This commitment is demonstrated by the Chapter's admission of five new members and the temporary profession of three of its members on September 5, 2023. With this development, the Chapter now has 34 members: 21 perpetually professed; 8 temporary professed; and 5 new members.
The Rites of Admission and Temporary Profession were done within the context of the Mass which was presided over by Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, the Chapter's Spiritual Director and Vicar of the Provincial. He concelebrated the Holy Mass with Fr. Matthias Nga Reh, OP, parish priest of Santuario del Sto. Cristo and prior of the convent of the Holy Cross; Fr. Gregory Zhang, OP; Fr. Rufandi, OP; and Fr. Okol from the Diocese of Pasig.
The homily of Fr. Raymond may be read below:
We thank the Lord for this special day, September 05, 2023, which marks the jubilee of the 75 th foundation anniversary of the Lay Dominicans of the Holy Rosary Chapter.
A series of activities have been organized by the Lay Dominicans to commemorate the Jubilee year. We have seminars on different topics throughout the year with the help of Rev. Fr. Virgilio Ojoy, O.P. We are also discerning new missions and apostolates at a time when the Church is exploring the Synodal Process which aims “to live communion, to achieve participation, to open Herself to mission.” These will afford us new platforms that would keep our presence abreast with the needs of the Church and of today’s society. In collaboration with the parish of the Santuario del Santo Cristo, we had the groundbreaking this morning for the statue of St. Catherine of Siena, an ardent lover of God and his Church, and a passionate follower of St. Dominic. She stands to remind us of God’s love toward all the people as well as our duties to build up the Church according to our respective status in society and in the Church.
Furthermore, today we witness and celebrate the generosity of eight sisters and brothers in answering the prompting of the Holy Spirit to embrace the Dominican charism.
Br. Marlon L. Antonio, Sis. Evelyn M. Del Rosario, and Sis. Normamina S. Fernandez will make their temporary profession as Lay Dominicans.
Sis Minerva R. Alfonso, Sis. Gertrude Fideliz Anos, Br. Kyle Baldwin S. Cruz, Sis. Maria Kathleen S. Lumabi and Sis. Melita SM Thomeczek will be admitted to the Lay Dominicans.
Each step is a challenging step well taken to witness the Good News of the gospel in the Dominican way by being passionate lovers of God and his Church, just like the Patroness of the Lay Dominicans, St. Catherine of Siena. In one of her prayers, St. Catherine turned to the Lord and prayed:
Eternal Goodness, you want me to gaze into you and see that you love me gratuitously, so that I may love everyone with the very same love. You want me, then, to love and serve my neighbors gratuitously, by helping them spiritually and materially as much as I can…. (– From “Prayer 12”)
Let this be our prayer.
In the Gospel reading, the Lord Jesus called us to love. “And he who loves me will be loved by my Father. I, too, will love him and reveal myself to him.” Let us never fail to nurture this love and to have God within us. When we have the Lord, we have everything.
We know that our holy Father St. Dominic was so much in love with God and immersed in the matter of God, “he spoke only of God or with God,” and so is our holy Father St. Francis, who was often heard praying loudly, “My God and my all.”
Last Sunday, after our community Adoration and Evening prayer in the Convent, I wheeled Fr. Dionisio Cabezon to his room. Since his caregiver went to prepare his food, I asked some questions to converse with him. He made some simple replies to the questions “How are you? Are you hungry? Do you want to eat?” However, when I asked him “Where are you from?” he just smiled and did not give an answer. Apparently, he could not recall it. When I said, “You are from Spain.” After a short pause, he said, “Well, yes, I think that’s something I should not forget.”
Yes. We should never forget our roots, our origin, and our Jesus, the Vine, who has grafted us unto him so we can bear much fruit. It was with a lot of love and concern for the disciples when Jesus told them and all of us: “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit because without me you can do nothing.” (Jn 15:5)
When the Order of Preachers was founded more than 800 years ago, our Chapter being 75 is very young. However, it is always good that we constantly remind ourselves of our identity as Dominicans and our mission to be carried out “in the apostolic spirit of St. Dominic, ‘to seek their own salvation and that of others” (LCO 149 §1).
The Rev. Fr. Eladio Neira, OP, our very own brother, gave us a big challenge with his article “The Lay Dominican Fraternities: Schools of Christian Perfection.” It is not enough for us to be good or holy alone. As members of the Lay Dominican Fraternity, we must keep that light burning brightly and attract others to seek and search for the truth. In the words of our Lord Jesus, “Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” (Mt 5:16)
To end my sharing, I want to quote once again St. Catherine, patroness of the lay Dominicans.
“We are of such value to God that He came to live among us... and to guide us home. He will go to any length to seek us, even to being lifted high upon the cross to draw us back to Himself. We can only respond by loving God for His love.”
This is a call to love with the love of God who “saw all creation was good.” (cf. Gen.1).
I like the way Fr. Christopher Kiesling, O.P. talked about the purpose of the Dominican Laity. He said, “It is the means whereby the Dominican spirituality… moves out into the world to contribute to the coming of God's reign over all creation.”
Spirituality simply understood, “are practices by which we open ourselves to the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.” When we say “practice,” external conducts, like oral prayers, fasting, silence, charity works etc. naturally come to our mind.
However, in the light of the famous motto, “Contemplare et contemplata aliis trader” (Contemplate and share with others the fruits of contemplation), we should give importance to “a variety of internal activities, and in the long run, these are more important. Meditation, for example, is an internal activity… Adopting certain attitudes, for example, being willing to obey commands of legitimate superiors, loving others in a celibate manner, regarding manual labor or study as a special value, living within modest means.” These changes need more effort and sacrifice and they produce more fruits that are lasting.

Traditional Feast Day of St. Dominic
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ and St. Dominic,
May God’s peace be with you on this traditional feast day of St. Dominic, our blessed founder, and commemorated by the Church for his tireless work in protecting the Church from heresy and division!
As we prayerfully prepare to celebrate his new feast day, I would like to share four good news with you: 1) the creation of the Friends of Lay Dominicans (FOLD) group; 2) the reception of the first members of the FOLD; 3) the admission to the Fraternity of current postulants; and 4) the temporary profession of current novices.
The formation of the FOLD was approved by the Fraternity Council in a meeting dated June 11, 2023. The decision was brought about by the absence of the mention of the stage of aspirancy and postulancy under Art. 6, Section 1 of the General Declarations appended to the Rule of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic approved by the Vatican in 2019. It provides:
6. § I. – The perpetual promise is preceded by at least one year of initial reception and by three years of temporary promise, documented in the registers kept for this purpose either by the local Fraternity or in the provincial archive.
Additionally, the stages of aspirancy and postulancy were also not mentioned in the approved proposals during the 2018 International Congress of Lay Dominican Fraternities which defined the stages of formation as follows:
Proposal 2. Formation Levels:
1. Admission (initial formation)
2. Temporary profession
3. Perpetual profession (perpetual formation)
Following the legal principle of expressio unius est exclusio alterius, it is clear that the new Rule intends to do away with the stages of aspirancy and postulancy which, to the undersigned’s mind, is a good move in the right direction, i.e., the elimination of religious terms in the formation of Lay Dominicans.
The same abolition, however, has created a void relative to the necessary accompaniment of interested lay men and women in the discernment of their vocation – or not – to the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic. To fill this gap, the Fraternity Council decided to create the FOLD - the creation of which will not only give the Fraternity an opportunity to have a better appreciation of the candidates for admission, and for that the candidates to have more freedom of discernment.
Some Lay Dominicans from other Fraternities, however, were not happy hearing about the FOLD: they doubt the authority of our Council to create the FOLD. In response, it is sufficient to say that Article 18 of the 2019 Rule affirms the autonomy of each Fraternity to make rules relative to the governance of its affairs. Thus:
18 - The fraternities of the laity are subject to the jurisdiction of the Order; but they nevertheless enjoy that autonomy proper to the laity, by which they govern themselves.
Moreover, the creation of the FOLD formalizes the relationship of the Fraternity with those deemed “not prudent” to be admitted to Profession who, in turn, are nevertheless allowed by Article 7 of the General Declarations to participate in the life of the Fraternity. Thus:
7. The faithful who live in particular situations because of which in the judgement of the Council of the Fraternity it is not prudent that they be admitted to the promise may nevertheless participate in the life of the Fraternity and its permanent formation, in a path of following Christ through the Dominican charism, without prejudice to the discipline and Magisterium of the Church.
To emphasize, while the members of the FOLD are allowed to participate in the life of the Fraternity, they are not – or not yet – admitted to the Fraternity. As such their prayer commitments are set to the minimum of praying daily the following: a) Morning Offering; b) Meditation; c) Angelus; d) Holy Rosary; and e) Examen before bedtime. They are also expected to receive the sacrament of reconciliation once a month.
Moreover, the participation of the FOLD in the life of the Fraternity is characterized by their support to the apostolate of the Fraternity. Furthermore, it goes without saying that there is nothing that precludes members of the FOLD to apply for admission to the Fraternity.
On the second good news, and after providing for the reason of the creation of FOLD as well as defining the commitments the members thereof, I am happy to announce that on August 8, 2023, the feast of St. Dominic, we will receive the first batch of FOLD. They are:
1. Mr. Luis Sebastian S. Gonzaga
2. Ms. Rosemarie L. Valdueza
Those who have been previously admitted as postulants but have yet to be admitted to the Fraternity shall automatically belong to the FOLD.
On the third good news, I am happy to announce that the following will begin receiving their initial Lay Dominican formation this year as the Council voted to admit them to the Fraternity:
1. Ms. Gertrude Fideliz Anos
2. Mr. Kyle Baldwin S. Cruz
3. Ms. Maria Kathleen S. Lumabi
4. Ms. Minerva A. Revilla
5. Ms. Melita SM. Thomczek
Finally, on the fourth good news, the Council, after a thorough deliberation, also voted to allow the following to take their temporary profession for three years:
1. Mr. Marlon L. Antolin
2. Ms. Evelyn M. Del Rosario
3. Ms. Normamina S. Fernandez
The Rites of Admission and Profession will be held on September 5, 2023 – the 75th founding anniversary of our Fraternity.

April 23, 2023
The Chapter held its 4th monthly meeting this year on April 23, 2023. The meeting followed the same agenda as is customary: praying of the Lauds, preaching, silence, recitation of the Holy Rosary, and meeting proper.
Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, preached about the duty of all Christians to promote vocations - not just to the religious and consecrated life but to the lay and married state as well. He mentioned that promoting vocations requires authenticity, discernment and generosity. Authenticity because it will be impossible to promote vocations when one is not seen to be a true disciple of Christ; discernment because vocation is gift from God and not something that can thrive by human efforts alone; and generosity to accept one's and other's vocations.
After the morning meeting, the members of the Fraternity attended the Mass presided by Fr. Luis Sierra, OP.
The Brothers and Sisters ate lunch together which was sponsored by Br. Kyle Cruz, who celebrated his birthday on April 14.

March 26, 2023
To make up for the postponed closed retreat, the Fraternity decided to hold a monthly meeting on the fourth Sunday of March, 2023.
The meeting began with Lauds and followed by meditation on the Gospel, which substituted for the preaching of the Chaplain who had to celebrate Mass in another barangay.
Fr. Raymond Mi, OP, arrived at the exact time the third point of meditation was over. He, then, gave us the customary absolution for infractions against the Rule.
Thereafter, the Fraternity celebrated the birthdays of Br. Larry Opinaldo and Sr. Kathleen Lumabi.
The celebration was followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary, and by the meeting proper.
After the meeting, the Fraternity members attended the 11am Mass.
No community study was scheduled.

February 2023 Meeting and Community Study
February 26, 2023
On February 26, 2023, the Chapter held its second meeting for the year. The Brothers and Sisters prayed the Office of Lauds, and proceeded with the usual agenda.
During the meeting, it was announced that Fr. Ruben Martinez, OP, the Prior Provincial, approved the printing of the new prayer manual of the Fraternity entitled Aquam Sapientiae.
It was also announced that the Prior Provincial approved the replacement of the small "daily" scapular of the Fraternity from the current image of the Blessed Virgin Mary flanked by Sts. Dominic and Catherine to the simpler Dominican cross.
Unfortunately, it was also announced that the scheduled Ignatian retreat on March 2-4 at the Betania Retreat House was postponed as Fr. Gregory Short, OMV, who was supposed to be the retreat master, had to go back to the USA to bury his father. The members of the Chapter are encouraged to pray for Fr. Gregory's family, and for the repose of the soul of his father.
The Brothers and Sisters, then, attended the 11am Mass together.
After the Mass, the Brothers and Sisters ate lunch at the Conference Room of Aquinas School where they waited for Fr. Virgilio Ojoy, OP to deliver the second installment of a series of talks in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Chapter. The February talk of Fr. Ojoy had the theme, Love is Not Self-Seeking: The Discipline of Fasting and Abstinence.

Monthly Meeting & Lenten Recollection 2022
In the afternoon of March 27, 2022, the members of the Chapter held their monthly meeting with the the community chaplain, Fr. Laurentino Garcia, OP. During the meeting, three aspirants were welcomed - Ms. Minerva, Ms. Kathleen, and Mr. Angelo. Let us pray for them as they begin their Dominican journey.
After the meeting, i.e., at 4:00pm, the Chapter attended a recollection directed by Fr. Rolando Dela Rosa, OP. In his talk, he challenged the Lay Dominicans to cultivate a "sense of belonging" with the Church - to think and to act with the Church - following the call of Pope Francis to foster a "synodal Church" - a Church that walks together.
In walking with the Church, Fr. Dela Rosa emphasized the role and duty of the laity to study and defend the truths of the Catholic Church from those who seek to destroy it, and the importance of developing devotion to Our Lady.
In pursuing their studies, Fr. Dela Rosa also called on the Lay Dominicans to keep in mind that when the first Christian missionaries came to the Philippines 500 years ago, they came to introduce not just a generic form of Christianity but a clear and authentic articulation of Christianity, that is, Catholicism. This way the Chapter members can truly honor the first Christian missionaries to the Philippines.
The Lenten Recollection ended with a Holy Mass presided by Fr. Dela Rosa where, in his homily, he related that the Parable of the Prodigal Son can just as well be called the Parable of the Abandoned Father. According to Fr. Dela Rosa:
"In this parable, the father is abandoned by both his sons. One goes away to a distant land. The other imprisons himself in a virtual place in his heart, locked in by his resentment and false sense of filial piety. The father patiently waits for both of his sons to come to their senses and return to his welcoming arms.
"Jesus addresses this parable to an audience, composed of sinners and Pharisees. By presenting God as a prodigal father who is wastefully extravagant with his love and forgiveness, Jesus invites sinners—who, like the younger son, treat the Father as though He is dead or non-existent—to finally come back to Him. No questions asked, they should just come with the willingness to be forgiven and loved.
"Jesus also invites modern-day Pharisees to give up their wrong notion of religion and piety. Like the elder son, they think that religion means adhering rigidly to duty, piling up good deeds to prove that they are worthy of God’s love. God does not want to be an object of duty or obligation. He wants us to love Him with the same reckless extravagance with which He loves us. " (https://mb.com.ph/2022/03/27/the-parable-of-the-abandoned-father/)
Fr. Dela Rosa, surely, enkindled the flame in the apostolic and missionary heart of the Holy Rosary Lay Dominicans!
Laus Deo!
Meeting with Fr. Rubén Martínez Ortega, OP
On March 9, 2022, the brothers and sisters of the Chapter met with Fr. Ruben Ortega, OP, the Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of the Holy Rosary. The meeting was held after the 7:00am Mass at the Santuario del Santo Cristo Parish in San Juan, which was presided by the Provincial himself.
During the meeting, Mr. Jeremy Bayaras, OP, inquired about the possibility of updating the statutes of the Chapter in light of the recent developments in the Rule of the Lay Dominicans, and about the possibility of calling for a meeting of all Lay Dominican Chapters under the direction of the Province.
The Provincial responded by expressing his support to the said endeavors. He also committed to immediately communicate the same with the Provincial Promoter of Lay Dominicans.
Fr. Ortega then thanked the members of the Chapter for their efforts to advance the cause, spirituality, and teachings of St. Dominic; and expressed his hope that through these efforts more young men and women will come to discover the beauty of the Dominican vocation.
During the meeting, Fr. Ortega's love for the missions was evident as he enthusiastically talked about the new mission station of the Province in East Timor (he was one of the founders of the Dominican missions in the said country), and the other activities of the Province in other territories.
The meeting ended with Fr. Ortega blessing the brothers and sisters of the Fraternity.
While the meeting was short, it was surely a meaningful meet and greet at the Santa Catalina Hall of the Santuario del Sto. Cristo Parish.

Matthias Nga Reh, OP; Fr. Luis Sierra, OP; and Fr. Gregory Zhang Wen, OP. Following CoVID restrictions, Fr. Rafael Carpintero, OP served as cantor.
The Homily of Fr. Matthew follows:
If anyone thirsts for me, let him come to me, let him drink who believes in me.
Brothers and sisters: Whenever we celebrate our Dominican saints, for two reasons. The first reason is for intercession. We know that, Like Saint Dominic, our saints are constant intercessors for us and for our mission. As St. Dominic, said, he will be more useful in heaven than here on earth. Our saints are praying and interceding for us today from heaven.
Second reason is for imitation. Our Dominican saints, not only constant intercessors, but also a constant inspiration for all of us to imitate their examples, their testimonies, their way of preaching the Risen Christ in their lives. Reflecting on imitation, this morning, we have two brothers (brothers Jeremy and Carlo), who decided willingly to follow and imitate Christ, through the example of St. Catharine.
There are so much things to learn and imitate from St. Catharine of Siena. She is a good preacher, who knew the signs of her time very well, and preached, and witnessed the Word of God accordingly.
During 14th century, the church went through one of most challenging times in history. The testimony of St. Catharine of Siena, as peacemaker, reconcilers, and mediator of unity in the Church. She played a very outstanding and incredible sign of hope in the difficult moments in the Church. She received such power from her prayers, patience, and her constant penance, personal sacrifices in her life. In the Gospel, the Jew was asking Jesus, where does this man get all this knowledge, Jesus said, I preached to you not my doctrine, but the one who sent me.
In the time of Catharine, many people also wondering how did she did this all? No doubt, God chose her to be the instrument of God’s grace in her time.
She was convinced that the wound in the body of Christ could only be healed by great sacrifice. She offers her life as a sacrifice for peace and unity of the Church in Italy, Florence and of the whole world. In the book of Dialogue, she confessed that, her love for Christ impelled her to go out from her cell to spread her love of Christ, in her brothers, sisters, the poor, sick, sinners who had lost their ways.
St. Catharine was one of great spiritual leaders as well, she used to write and encouragement letters to all works of life, she used to tell them, “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the whole world on fire.” In other words, be truthful to yourself, and then, you can preach the truth affectively in this world, and she meant it through her examples and testimony in her life.
St. Catherine stood out as a beacon of light in a dark time. That is the calling of each one of us. We all are called to be mystics to some degree. The Lord’s invitation, “If anyone thirsts for me, let him come to me, let him drink who believes in me” is addressed to us all. He calls out to all of us to come to him, to know and love him as he knows and loves us. In calling us to himself he also sends us into the world afire with the flame of his love.
This is our calling, as Dominicans, we are called and sent to preach the truth, but if we do not live in truth ourselves, how can we bring the truth to others. that is why, St. Catharine, we can’t give to others, what we do not have in the first place. Otherwise, it will be our own words, and it is just seeking for self-glory or self-praise.
That is why Jesus also reminds us again, “whoever speaks on his own is bent on self-glorification, but the man who seeks glory for him who sent him is truthful, there is no dishonesty in his heart”, in the book of Dialogue, God says to Catherine. “You cannot live without love because I made you for love. “This is why I have put you among your neighbors: so that you can do for them what you cannot do for me,” meaning, love them without any concern for thanks and without looking for any profit for yourself.”
When we make profession, we humbly response to the invitation of Christ, not because of we are so capable, but we reply on God’s grace, and trust his ever present- accompaniment in our preaching journey. That is why, we made profession to God, who is the source of all inspirations, for his greater glory, for his mission, not for our own sake. This we see in the Dialogue of God and St. Catharine. St. Catharine offers us three ways of how to be always remain in the Love of God. Firstly, serving God out of Obedience, serving God out of faithfulness, and serving God, with no selfish interests. St. Catharine said, through these three steps, the soul can discern the will of God, once we know who we truly are, we will live as children of God.
Dear brothers and sisters, the examples of St. Catharine, reminds us to reflect, to read the signs of our times, in order to preach the truth effectively. Frist we need to see our communities, when and if peace is lacking among you, then, be the peacemaker, if there are misunderstanding among you, be the reconcilers, in order to preach and witness the truth to others.
We might be so overwhelmed by St. Catherine’s examples and preaching, how the Lord has bestowed upon her soul, making her shine out beyond space and time, yet her message is still relevant and clear. If you decided to love God in the person of Risen Christ, then we can have all the strength, and grace to overcome all difficulties and challenges, to go out of our limits to serve our brothers and sisters in need.
St. Catherine and all the saints who had responded with love and generosity to the call of God and bring the good news, May their spirits inspire all of us to be responsive to it with the selfless love and generosity. May we be filled with this same passion in serving the Church and with the same zeal in loving and serving Jesus.
Through the intercession of our mother, our Lady of the most holy Rosary, St. Catherine, St. Dominic, and all the martyrs of the province, we pray especial way for our Brother Jeremy and Carlo and all of us, may the Risen Lord, renews our hearts and commitments, may the inspiration of St. Catherine constantly reminds us to be mediator of unity, instrument of peace and defender of justice and lover of dialogue with God and with our neighbors all the days of our lives. Amen.
