Why join Scouting?
Scouting teaches character while the kids make friends and have fun. They learn new skills, become better connected to their community, and grow friendships with their fellow scouts. The values your child will emphasize with scouting are captured in the Scout Law and Oath, as well as the Scout Motto of "do your best". These studies show the impact of Scouting on youth.
How do we sign up for Cub Scouts?
If you are interested in joining our Pack, please fill out the form on the Contact Us page.
When are the Pack meetings?
Our pack meetings are held once a month on a Friday evening between October and June at the Village Elementary School. We also have outings/events most months.
Do we have to attend all meetings?
We recognize the challenges of juggling busy family scheduled, so no, you don't have to be at every meeting or activity. Our events are targeted at having fun while learning, and in many cases the scouts get a patch for their participation while completing some of their required achievements!
What level would my child be and how often does the Den meet?
Dens are set up for youth of the same age group to work together and form friendships, and the Den meetings solidify that.
Grade K = Lion Den, meets monthly
Grade 1 = Tiger Den, meets about twice a month
Grade 2 = Wolf Den, meets about twice a month
Grade 3 = Bear Den, meets about twice a month
Grade 4 = Webelos, meets twice a month to weekly
Grade 5 = Arrow Of Light, meets twice a month to weekly
Can my son join Cub Scouting at any grade K through 5?
Yes, they can join at any point in the year, and will quickly earn a Bobcat badge as a first rank level. Collectively with their Den they start earning their grade level's rank, so there is no need to make up the previous levels.
What happens after 5th grade?
Around the midpoint of the 5th grade year, the Cub Scout crosses over into Boy Scouts and can choose which Troop to join. They can also choose Venturers, Explorers or Sea Scouts. The cross over takes place at our annual Blue & Gold Banquet which celebrates all their accomplishments.
What kinds of Pack activities are there?
Monthly Pack meetings have a theme, topic, or entertainment, like an animal show, demonstration, magician, and other fun activities. Pack activities include camping, ice skating, community service events such as park clean-ups and Memorial Day ceremony participation, Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta and so much more. If you have an idea, email us!
What is a Pack vs. a Den?
A Den is a group of youth all in the same grade that meet together to have fun and earn their rank throughout the school year. The Pack is made up of all the Dens.
Where is the Monmouth Council's headquarters?
Monmouth Council's office is located at 705 Ginesi Dr, Morganville, NJ 07751 (same building as the Scout Shop). Their phone number is 732-536-2347 and their website is https://www.monmouthcouncilscouting.org
What if my child has special needs?
Please let us know and we will do our scouting best to make your child feel welcome and accommodated.
What do I do with all these patches?
The official rank patches go on their scouting uniform. All the event patches can be put on a red Scout vest, blanket, backpack or displayed any creative way you can come up with. Vests and backpacks are available from the Scouting store.
How does religion play a role in your Pack?
The Scouting principles denote a belief in a God, the God of your choice. We welcome all religions and keep a simple interfaith philosophy. We welcome the diversity and the chance to teach kids about our very culturally diverse community.
How can I volunteer?
Our pack is completely run by parent volunteers and we need your help to make our pack run smoothly and successfully! What are you good at? What hobbies do you have? What do you enjoy doing? You can share any of your skills with the den and/or pack whether it's leading one den meeting, helping out on an event committee or taking on a larger leadership role. Let us know at any time what you'd like to help with!
