Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum is proud to present our 6th Annual Christmas On The Farm event. It will be held on both Saturday and Sunday, December 13th &14th from 10 am to 4 pm.
Festivities include 10 to 12 craft vendors in the Kean Barn, various photo opportunities, old time crafts, an opportunity to make a theme related Christmas ornament for our younger visitors, decorations in the 1711 House and a visit with Santa.
We will have live music on both days.
Saturday’s music will be provided by Long Hill String Band from 1 to 3 pm.
On Sunday music will be by Sawmill Run Old Time String Band from 11 am to 3 pm.
Both of these groups are donating their time and talents to entertain us.
Please be generous in thanking them. Admission is $5.00. We look forward to seeing you in December.
The Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum is dedicated to preserving the rich agricultural heritage of Hunterdon County, spanning from the 18th through the 20th centuries.
The Museum is housed in a beautifully restored three-story bank barn, ingeniously built into a hillside to allow both levels to be accessed from ground level. Livestock were kept on the lower floor, while crops were stored above. During harsh weather, farmers could feed their animals without stepping outside. Today, the barn features exhibits showcasing the tools and equipment used by farmers to cultivate crops, care for livestock, and produce goods for sale. Other displays highlight the domestic work of the farmer’s wife, including food preparation, preservation, and clothing production. Early examples of now-common tools and appliances provide visitors with a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of everyday life.
The Museum property was originally part of John Holcombe’s “Plantation,” as noted in his 1742 will. In 1968, the Farmstead was generously donated to the Hunterdon County Historical Society by Milo and Rachel Jimison, who retained life rights. Upon Milo Jimison’s passing, over 250 years of continuous agricultural activity on the site came to an end. In 1984, ownership of the property was transferred to the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead, Inc. Thanks to grants from small foundations, individual donations, and significant support from the 1772 Foundation, the Museum’s dedicated volunteers and Trustees have meticulously restored the property and added new outbuildings, including a Post Office, General Store, Blacksmith Shop, Carriage Shed, and Print Shop.
Established in 1714 on land purchased from the Lenape people, Hunterdon County boasts a rich and diverse agricultural history. The Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead Museum reflects this legacy through its carefully curated and varied exhibits.
