Chronicles Volume 1
Kara is a master thief who believes needing no one is the same as being strong. When her mentor is murdered, she discovers the greatest heist she'll ever attempt is learning to trust the people she's spent her whole life trying to protect from a distance.
The Drowned District is turning to stone. The Merchant Guild is mining its people for Living Granite, and the only cure lies in the heart of a desert that wants Kara dead before she ever reaches it.
The city was never a monument. It was a machine, and someone has been running it into the ground for three hundred years. The final volume asks the one question every great fantasy must eventually answer.
The World
Explore the world of the tiered city.
Clay tiles, rotting wood, and the honest smell of survival. This is where Kara was born, where Bram taught her to read the city, and where everything worth saving in Oakhaven actually lives.
Coal smoke, dragon oil, and runic tracks. Where industry and exploitation meet, and where people who benefit from injustice tell themselves they have no choice. They live well enough to believe it.
White granite, beeswax, and cedar incense. Lord Vane rules here behind walls of cold magic and administrative cruelty wrapped in aesthetic perfection. The lie made stone.
Every city has a frequency. Those who know how to listen can read Oakhaven like a body and know where it's sick, where it's healing, and what it needs to survive.
They were not gods. They were engineers who gave a damn. They built a city designed to serve its people and left behind the knowledge of how to fix it. That knowledge has been hidden for three hundred years.
Beyond the canyon walls lies everything Oakhaven has forgotten. Some chains are worth following all the way to the horizon, and the trilogy is only the beginning of that journey.
The People of Oakhaven
Every person in a crowd has their own story, their own point of view, their own world. These are the ones whose stories demanded to be told.
The Shadow of Oakhaven. A master thief with amber eyes and callus-hardened hands who spent her whole life believing that needing no one was the same as being strong. The entire trilogy is about learning how wrong she was.
The mechanic who unofficially adopted a girl from the Drowned District and taught her that the city has bones, if you know how to read them. His death is the emotional engine that drives the entire trilogy.
The smith who keeps the crew armed, armored, and alive. Every bit as vital to the chain as Bram, Vulcan turns raw metal and raw people into something that can actually hold under pressure.
The apprentice who becomes a genuine intellectual partner. His arc from starry-eyed disciple to the person who speaks the most important truth in the trilogy is quietly beautiful, and completely earned.
Lord Vane
His is the overarching architect of the oppression. As the head of the Merchant's Guild, he resides safely within the high-security vault of the High Keep, treating the lower districts as cheap labor. His strict inspectors, hoarding of resources
Malakor
Malakor is an unyielding enforcer who tracks thieves not by footprints, but by smelling the magic in their blood. In a pivotal moment early in the story, he unleashes terrifying spectral shadow-hounds to track her down into the lightless catacombs after she steals the Sovereign’s Tear.
Cold, logical, and mathematical. She doesn't use monsters or sorcery. She uses geometry. Her evolving relationship with Kara across three volumes is a masterclass in long-form character development.
Warden Thrawne
A localized secondary antagonist managing the city’s penal and containment systems. He represents the brutal day-to-day enforcement of the High Keep’s decrees, locking down local wards and squeezing the lower class.
