As a member of the Executive Team, I held a role in "managing" the creative production aspects of this project. My primary focus was on collaborating closely with the creative team, ensuring their voices were valued and acknowledged across all committees, given the significant impact they had on the project's success. Facilitating brainstorming sessions and acting as a central line of contact between various groups and Dr. Turner were among my key responsibilities.

As a member of the Executive Team; working with Marketing Team, we made a wonderful product. My role was to oversee the Marketing and Legal team, our group worked hard to ensure we could supply a trendy and eye catching way to pull people in to our music. The members I worked with were Harry (Legal), Nico, and Shoe. They created a plethera of advertising through posters, social media, and enticing images to go along with our music. They created an album cover derrived from other ideas, kept the music on brand by ensuring the use of key words, and even transformed our singers into the ideal vision, based on audience likeness, of country singers. I helped pull things together and ran around to create photos for us to use which were then edited and put to work by them. I contributed to ideas for social media and even did my best to have Shaq promote our music (unfortunately he was too busy). As the Executive to the Marketing Team I made sure everything went smoothly and operated as intended, I did most of my work with the images and managing the media accounts.

I was one of the members of the executive team working with the Event Planning Committee. My role was to oversee this committee, make sure we were on track, and help out in any way that I could. The members of the Event Planning Committee are Rowan, Kylin, Harry, Payton, and Mahoney. They created the final product for the flyer, mood board, agenda, attendance, and feedback forms, and organized all the details for the event. I contributed ideas for themes and locations. I was involved in conversations about possible equipment needed and things we could do to make our event better with the limited access we have to materials. I have also asked the professor clarifying questions to make sure our committee was on the right track.

I was one of the Executive members assigned to event planning. Since the project was similar to another project I've done for Music and Identity I took a largely advisory role while working with groupmates. I answered any questions and cleared up any confusion, as well as communicated with the marketing team to gauge progress and create the final product. I also helped with the initial process of brainstorming ideas for venues, creating attendance forms, and choosing themes for the concert.
The creative team took on a major project when choosing our role. We were responsible for writing the words and music for 3 songs and then recording them in addition to recording a cover. It was not a small goal, but it was one we achieved!
We began by sitting down as a team and developing a storyline to follow throughout our songs. We came up with the idea of a love story between a country girl and a city boy. We chose this idea because it was consistent with the concept of country vs. city which is extremely present in the genre. You typically hear songs about the boy being country, so we wanted to reverse this expected theme. The songs follow their love story. "Each Night" is about the girl dreaming of the guy, wanting him to take a chance on her. Song number 2, which is a cover of “Hey Good Lookin’” by Hank Williams, reveals to the listener that he also has interests that he wants to act on in pursuit of her. "Let Love Go" is a breakup song. The two fell apart and the girl is letting him know its time for the relationship to end. This ending of the relationship is due to the stark divide between their lifestyles and goals. The two love each other, but not enough to give up their dreams outside of each other. "On My Own" is a duet meant to serve as a reflection song on their love story. The two have realized they are better on their own and they’ll be okay. Thank you to Shauna Skow who wrote the lyrics for "Each Night", Haley Hetrick who wrote the lyrics for "Let Love Go", and both Shauna and Justus Ullman, who together, wrote the lyrics for the duet, "On My Own".
After writing the lyrics to the songs we started coming up with melodies as well as ideas of instrumentation and rhythm. We quickly realized no one in our group could play some of the necessary instruments that we needed including the piano and guitar; so we entered the talent acquisition stage of our project. We would like to thank Peter Imhof (piano) and Trent Golini (guitar) for being a part of this project! We seriously could not have done it without their willingness to help. Shauna Skow and Justus Ullman have done a fantastic job playing the ukulele for two of our songs as well!
When writing the music for the songs, we considered common chord progressions found in country music. We used the apps Musescore, Demo, and Bandlab to create the music for each song. After developing a chord progression we sent them to the musicians along with an AI draft of the piece, created with Demo, with vocals. The musicians were able to make adjustments to the chords and add in different strumming and playing patterns to make it sound more fitting to the song in comparison to the work of AI. After having voice momo recordings of all of the instruments and voice, using the podcast studio in the Smith Library, we were able to mix the tracks using bandlab to develop our finishing products. Thank you to Haley Hedrick and Justus Ullman who contributed their voices in the creation of our pieces, spending time working in the studio laying down vocals over the instrumentation. Thank you to Paris Glover, Jordan Via, and Shauna Skow for sitting in during recording and voicing suggestions and pointing out areas of improvement you noticed to make these songs the best they could be!
Although this was a challenge, we are all grateful for the opportunity to learn more about country music creation. We were able to see what all went into developing songs from start to finish. This project helped us become better collaborators, musicians, and writers and it's so rewarding to see the finished product. I hope you all enjoy listening!
Our team worked hard to ensure an aesthetically pleasing outcome to the creative teams work. We spent most of our time scheming ideas for the album cover, the themes we wanted to present, and gathering data to ensure the popularity of our new releases.
We couldnt do much until the creative team had their music ready, but once we had access to it, it was game on. We made social media accounts, created posters and flyers for our performance, promoted the music, gained legal rights to use a song by Hank Williams, and created the most kick ass album cover of 2024!
We struggled with our position in the EP as a whole but once we saw our vision and executed it through their music the dream became a masterpiece!
Posters and flyers are up everywhere, and the instagram is gaining popularity! The songs are a hit!
Thanks for your hard work and dedication; Shoe, Nico and Harry (Legal)!
Our team, consisting of Kylin, Rowan, Harry, Payton, and Mahoney, created a flyer, attendance sheet, mood board, feedback sheet, and agenda for the upcoming performance exam. We worked together to establish themes, general event criteria, and a guideline for any attendees.
