The NFL over the course of its history has always been transparent about injury data in hopes that companies will find new technologies in order to reduce those numbers. While also implementing new rules in order to make the game safer overall, the technological leaps that companies such as Riddell have made since 1920 have provided a safer landscape for players on all levels to compete.Â
When analyzing the official NFL Injury Data over the last nine seasons one can determine that, while concussions numbers fluctuating with chance, concussion injuries decreasing juristically. Throughout this data set, in 2020 the NFL added an extra game to the sixteen game season, increasing injuries slightly due to the extra play and skewing the data. While the data only covers the most recent seasons of football, the increase in helmet technology even over a short period of time lead to a major decrease in head injuries, hinting at the overall impact that helmet companies have made over years.
