"The unpaved Redwood Highway opened in the late 1920's replacing the Gasquet Toll Road which was constructed in 1887. Local newspapers called it 'one of the great recreational highways in America' and said it improved travel conditions within one of the most beautiful sections in California.
"DidYouKnow US 199 is one of the original US Routes created during November 1926.
