Rhinebeck has seen many modes of transport over the centuries from carraige houses and horse steps at persoanl homes (see the spriti at Lingingston and Mulberry) to liveries made available as a business (Fralieigh Livery featured i the scene), to bicycles which this young man is selling and which were instrumental in women gaining greater freedom, to marvelous old cars and traffic cops who had to manage them. You may even see Pocahontas making its way from the fire station.
Walace Foster created Foster's Tavern as an ode to the horse and buggy days of transportation and was a great horse lover himself.
