My father completed his national service with 74 squadron RAF as an electrician. He was based at Horsham St Faith in Norfolk, and serviced Gloster Meteor F.8s and later Hawker Hunter F.4s. Apparently, 74 squadron gained their first Hunters in March 1957. Since national service was only for 18 months and my dad started on Meteors, these photos must come from 1957 possibly through to early 1958. I scanned these on a large ppi setting, so if you want a larger image you need to right click “Large Image” and open in a new tab.
A close up of one of the pilots. Shows off the artwork nicely. I think Dad is the bloke with ears and 74 on his back. Large Image
Nice picture showing part of the squadron getting ready for the off. Not sure what marks these were, from what dad has said, F.4s rubbed shoulders with F.6s. Some of these are looking a bit worn. Large Image
