Description: The course is concerned with studying and analyzing the philosophy of mathematics and its teaching in terms of its origins, development, foundations, and nature. Also, the most prominent intellectual and educational trends contributed to the growth of mathematics and school mathematics. In addition, study the philosophy of mathematics, its teaching and logic, the theory of knowledge, and the principles of mathematics teaching. Finally, it was concluded to make a contemporary mathematical educational intellectual structure.

Description: Students learn how to start the thesis process by transforming a broad topic or idea into a proper, feasible research proposal. Writing a master thesis is a compulsory part of the program curriculum. The skills training assists students in getting the thesis process started. First, students will be informed about the formal process of writing a master thesis , i.e., format of the thesis, requirements, grading rules, resit options, etc. Second, students will learn how to develop a research idea and finally transfer it into a proper and feasible research proposal. This is the main part of the training and assists students by writing down the academic relevance of their topic and how to develop a research design. The main goal is to finally have a clearly defined research proposal with which the student can start approaching a thesis supervisor. Third, the skills training helps students find a thesis supervisor.

Mathematics Education for Elementary School Teachers, Curr 431 (3 units)
Description: Provides students with knowledge and experience to enable them to become effective elementary school mathematics teachers. Emphasis on modes of instruction, problem solving, use of technology, assessment, and Saudi national standards, with special attention to the teaching of geometry, algebra, and statistics. Practicum experience focuses on effective teaching strategies and techniques used in secondary schools.

Mathematics Teaching Practicum (Student Teaching): Curr 473 (8 units)
Description: This practicum provides mathematics teachers with student teaching experiences under the supervision of experienced classroom teachers. Responsibility for teaching will increase gradually throughout the semester. A student teaching placement application must be completed and submitted to the student's math advisor early in the semester prior to student teaching.

Teaching Methods: Curr 518 (3 units)
Description: An introduction to teaching. Appropriate for students exploring teaching as a career and required for students in all majors. This course includes an 8-hour field practicum in classrooms. Topics include issues in teaching and learning, curriculum, Saudi national standards in elementary or secondary classrooms, and effective and equitable teaching practices.
