The abandoned church at Shettihalli (Karnataka)
The church near Shettihalli had been built in the 1860s by a group of French missionaries to serve the British estate owners around the place. It has been an example of a magnificent Gothic architecture, and has been situated by the side of Hemavati river. The church is presently abandoned and stands as a ruin bearing the witness of its past glory. With the construction of a dam a little downstream of the site, it gets flooded during the rainy seasons, prompting it to be called "the floating church".
Train Crossing Pamban Bridge, Ramesharam, Tamil Nadu
Pamban Railway Bridge connects the Rameswaram island with mainland India. Opened on 24 February 1914, it has been India's first sea bridge. The bridge has a double-leaf bascule section, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. Until 1988, when a parallel road bridge was constructed, the Pamban bridge was the only surface transport that connected Rameswaram to the mainland.
Eye to eye
Kanha Tiger Reserve is one of the tiger reserves of India and the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh. It stretches over an area of 940 km2 (360 sq mi), and is popular among the wild-life enthusiasts. We were elated to see the tiger at a close range, and I suppose the feeling was mutual.
Sunset time at Murudeshwara, Karnataka
Murudeswara is a village down the the coast of Karnataka, which is not inundated with tourists, and offers a pristine view of the rural life. The fishermen are preparing for their nocturnal sojourn. While one of them is setting up his boat, the other looks at the setting sun and probably works out his strategies for the night.
