As the title says I have a Red & Black Chinese 80W laser cutter I bought off of Amazon. Straight to the point, does anyone know where I can get new hinges for the thing that are identical (but hopefully better quality)?

What happened:

After about 100 projects (I know from saved files) and therefore about 400 door openings - both of the black metal hinges sheared right in half! I was left holding the door attached by only the fairly strong gas pistons. Looks like bubbly crap metal casting, but I would expect a hinge to last 100k cycles or more. Temporarily I have disconnected the pistons, and made some handy-dandy duct tape hinges (and constant arm power to keep the door open).

Yes, quick and dirty but works well and will outlast those sintered chinese ones. I got a $10 refund from ebay seller as laser arrived with broken hinges and they only cost me $5. Good service from ebay seller. My tube blew recently and they refunded me $500 so i could get a replacement. So i ended up getting the better tube i was going to replace it with anyway with the refund money! How good is that!!!

Those look about the same as the cheap hinges that BOSS uses on their machines. I was able to use part # 240990 from Home Depot as a direct fit, no need to re-drill any holes. If you are trying to create an aircraft/spacecraft/anything that moves about a hinge (0-360 degrees) you are forced to use one hinge that actuates about the center of mass for best results. The issue here is that once your mass you are rotating becomes large enough, one hinge cannot handle the job. If I understand you correctly, then you want to use several hinges in parallel to share the (mechanical) load. You can do that by first placing the required (or wanted) number of hinges, then connecting the moving part to one of the hinges, and finally connecting the the free end of the other hinges to the moving part with regular struts. You'll have to make sure that all the hinges move synchronously, I'd suggest using a KAL-1000 to do that.

I'm using Fusion 360 for wood working and would like to quickly and easily integrate common parts I will use like screws, hinges, etc. into my design. How can I integrate these parts easiest? Is there a database where I can download all such common parts (as I don't want to design all the hinges, cams & dowels, and screws myself)?

I watched the trailer for Sparks to the Future the other day and got pretty excited when I saw two thrusters pivoting on a ship during take-off. Of course I downloaded the new DLC as well as updating the vanilla and then proceeded to spend the next 3 days making a crazy new large-ship folding wing with landing gears by utilising hinges in every place that I could!

I've had this laptop a while now - about two years. Within a couple of months of owning it, one of the hinges broke. Then after a while, the second one started to go as well. I really should of got it fixed earlier, but I haven't got round to it. The laptop still runs OK, but I've obviously a bit worried about it going kaput in the near future unless I manage to sort out the hinge issue.

My questions are really as follows:

Does every single HP laptop have different hinges? I'm looking on ebay at the minute for some used replacements and there's so many different options. I would of thought all HP Envy 17 laptops would have the same hinges...am I wrong to assume this? I'll give you an example: there's this one: -Envy-17-1000-Series-17-1050ea-RIGHT-Screen-Bracket-Hinge-FBSP8028010/18... - then there's this one: -Envy-17-J-17-J141NA-LCD-Screen-Support-Hinge-Bracket-6055B0025601-LEFT...

I'm basically not sure which hinges I should be buying.

Secondly, looking at the pictures, is there anything else I might need replacing? I need a new battery as well, so I'm just trying to work out whether it's worth getting everything fixed on this laptop or just waiting for it to die and get a new one.

Yes, from the pictures we can see that it is not actually the hinges, but the "screw holders" which have broken loose from the top cover. Now, you could replace the whole top cover with part number 720271-001. However, this will be quite expensive.

First let me answer your question. Not every model uses different hinges. A serie will have the same hinges and sometimes more series will have the same hinge. When searching for parts it is easier and safer to use the part number of the part we need and perform search online with part number. The part number for the hinges for your model as we can see on page 22 of service manual is 720238-001

The ones you linked will also work. Now, before buying the hinges I would remove the base cover of the notebook and see what is happening in those corners. On pages 55-59 of service manual you can see the steps to remove the base cover. If you look on page 56 at the first picture, the two screws which are under the rubber feet, are they still holding the top and bottom part together?

Now once you remove the bottom cover, you can take a look at the hinges (called display hinges). Sometimes it is not the hinges which have broken, but that they have come loose from the top cover and when moved are pushing against the bottom cover. If you look at the first picture picture on page 64 of service manual are the screws still holding down the hinge to the top cover? Have they come loose or the holders have broken? Why is the hinge pushing down on the bottom cover and seperating it? It is possible to get new top cover if necessary and if broken many times I have had to invent solutions to keep prize down, such as using strong plastic epoxy cement... 2351a5e196
