Hinata is a 7-year-old Japanese boy currently in the second grade of elementary school.
He was born in Yokohama, Japan, in 2018 to a Japanese mother and a Chinese father.
In 2019, his mother died under suspicious circumstances after falling backward while holding Hinata in her arms. After her death, his father abandoned his parental responsibilities, and Hinata continued living with his maternal grandparents. For Hinata’s sake, they encouraged his father—despite refusing to take responsibility for raising him—to meet with his son once a week for several hours.
From the age of one until about four, during these visits, Hinata was subjected to psychological and physical abuse by his father and his father’s partner.
As Hinata grew older and became able to express himself, his maternal grandparents noticed how strongly he resisted seeing his father. They protected him and stopped the visits.
However, by that time, the abuse by his father and his father’s partner had already caused him to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Battered Child Syndrome. He continues to receive medical treatment.
After all contact with the abusers was cut off, Hinata has been living safely with his maternal grandparents. He attends elementary school, participates in local sports activities, and enjoys spending time with his friends and the people around him every day.
Today, Hinata lives safely and securely with his maternal grandparents in a stable environment, where he continues to grow and recover every day.
After Hinata’s mother passed away, his father left one-year-old Hinata alone in a room where exhaust fumes from nearby construction had accumulated, while he left the room himself.
While Hinata was living with his father, his health deteriorated significantly. Severe diaper rash, skin irritation, and dehydration were observed, and he required intravenous treatment.
Nursery school staff repeatedly raised concerns about Hinata’s hygiene, clothing, medical care, and daily living conditions, and requested improvements.
Hinata was repeatedly subjected to physical violence, including being strangled, thrown, hit, having his mouth and nose covered, and having foreign objects forced into his mouth.
He was repeatedly subjected to threats, abusive language, humiliation, and other forms of psychological violence.
Audio recordings from visits contain loud impact sounds, crying, screams, threats, and abusive language.
After his father’s partner became involved in his care, multiple unexplained bruises began appearing on Hinata’s body.
As Hinata became able to express himself verbally, he repeatedly stated that he did not want to visit his father.
As a result of administrative actions taken by his father, Hinata temporarily lost access to health insurance, medical treatment, and welfare services. His official records were also changed.
