These things are important because this is the foundation that you need to RULE over your computer. You shouldn't let your computer RULE over you. 

Unit 0 was just the foundation, learning how to navigate through Brightspace, and how to be a professional at emailing your professors. These things are needed when you start to learn about computers. Digital literacy is very important!
