Our training approach is rooted in these principles:
Quality of movement and effort
Appropriate progression of stimulus
Transparent communication
Quality of movement and the ability to effectively produce, absorb, and transfer force is essential to any athlete being able to healthily undergo the stresses of training. Improving our ability to move well and run efficiently, especially under the fatigue we experience on the roads and the trails and under the stress of a competitive race, requires intense focus and attention to detail. This focus must be present in all of our training.
We are focused on the long term athletic development of all our athletes. Our team has athletes with a wide range of athletic experiences, who are all in different stages of their physical development and have different athletic strengths and weakness. Our goal is to move athletes from general speed and endurance training to more intense and complex training that prepares them for the demands of the event. The speed of that progression will differ by athlete as they move from general to specific and simple to complex at the pace that is individually appropriate for them.
In order to make sure every athlete is receiving appropriate training and focusing their efforts productively, clear communication between the athlete and coach is essential. Open and honest debriefs of training are key to athletes receiving appropriate training throughout the course of the season.
