In the late 1950’s, my father called me down mid-afternoon to the McCook Railway Station to board and ride with him in the Observation Car of the Zephyr train for the last time. The train was being taken of the main line and out of service. We rode to the roundhouse area and the train left town for decommissioning later the next days. I can still remember sitting in that car with my Dad, a very memorable time for me.
