I have been thinking about the youth and ward theme for this year found in Moses 6:34 which reads, “Behold my Spirit is upon you, wherefore all thy words will I justify; and the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.”
This verse comes from the story of Enoch. God asked Enoch to preach repentance to the people—some of the most wicked the earth had ever seen.
Enoch didn’t think he could do it. He told God that he was too young, nobody liked him, and he was “slow of speech” (see Moses 6:31).
But God gave Enoch a promise. He told the frightened man, “Go forth and do as I have commanded thee” and “the mountains shall flee before you, and the rivers shall turn from their course; and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me” (Moses 6:32, 34).
“Walk with me.” What a simple, beautiful invitation.
God promised Enoch that if he would be brave enough to start, then God would be with him every step of the way. God would make Enoch mighty and strengthen him to do more and help him become more than he could ever imagine.
The chorus to one of my favorite hymns “I Will Walk with Jesus” says:
As I walk with Jesus to my home above,
He will bless me with His Spirit and fill me with His love,
Change my heart forever and help me clearly see.
I will walk with Jesus, and He will walk with me.
When life is hard, when you don’t feel like you’re enough, remember the Lord’s promise to Enoch, and to you. He will walk with you. He will not leave you alone, not for a single step.
