Q. Who can participate in the Imagination Fair & Science Expo?
Any student in Kindergarten-5th grade at Highlands.
Q: What happens at the Imagination Fair & Science Expo?
Students prepare posters, display boards or other materials to be exhibited on tables provided by Highlands. The displays are usually experiments, demonstrations, collections or research projects. Students stay by their display for at least part of the time so that they can answer questions from visitors. Students have the opportunity to have their projects judged.
Q: What does it mean if I signed up to have my project judged?
The optional opportunity to have your project judged is meant to add an extra layer of fun and engagement for interested students. Here's how it will work: Judges will visit your station and score it based on
1. information and content
2. originality and creativity
3. presentation
4. your understanding of the project
A list of questions will be provided to judged participants in order to help prepare for judging. You will be competing only against yourself to achieve the highest mark in each category, which will earn you up to four possible ribbons.
Q: Where can I get ideas for projects?
For project ideas check out the resource page created by our Library Media Specialist!
Q: How do I register?
Fill out this Registration Form to participate!
Q: Can I have candy at my station?
Unless candy is part of your project, it will not be allowed. We want to make sure everyone's project gets equal attention.
Q: Can I do a project with a friend?
Absolutely. You are welcome to plan a project with one or more friends. Only one member of the team should register and will have the opportunity to enter all members of the team.
Q: When can I bring my project to school?
Please bring your project to school at 5:15 pm for set up.
Q: Will I have a chance to look at other people's projects if I am also participating?
Yes. You can leave your project for a short time to look at the rest of the Fair & Expo. Our goal is to complete judging by 6:30 pm.
