The Thirroul Pick was a monthly Bluegrass and Old -time jam session held on the 3rd Saturday of each month (except January and November) .
The Thirroul Pick grew out of late night Bluegrass jam sessions at the Illawarra Folk Festival. Since 2006 pickers have been gathering monthly in Thirroul to share their love of Bluegrass and Old-time music. The group meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month except January and November.
For past few years the Pick has made its home at the Historic Railway Institute hall which can be found at the end of platform 1 of Thirroul Railway Station in Railway parade Thirroul.
The Thirroul Pick also occasionally hosts concerts at the Thirroul Railway Institute featuring both local and international Bluegrass and Old Time Artists.
It costs $3 to attend, and includes all the picking you can handle along with light refreshments. The Pick is hosted by local dobro picker and bass thumper Mark Ballesi (02)4267-5786 or markballesi@hotmail.com . All welcome!
