Annual fundraising event - parents can attend a party and bid on auction items and raffle items, and also sign up for experiences....all to fund the PTA.
Annual fundraiser- beautiful mums are sold, and will be picked up at the bus turnaround.
Once a month or so, we book local restaurants to partner with. A certain percentage of their profits is donated back to the PTA.
Event Committees
1st, 3rd and 5th graders get to visit with an author for a few hours! This event usually occurs at the end of April.
Once a year in the spring, we ask students to donate as many books as they want that they are done using. The committee goes through the books and arranges them by age/reading level. All students get to peruse the books and choose 3-4 to take home, new to them!
This annual event occurs in the fall, there are two sessions that families can choose from to attend. Multiple rounds of Bingo are played at each session. Pizzas can be pre-ordered to enjoy, and snacks and drinks are sold during the event.
This annual event occurs in the fall, the PTA rents a space to show a movie outdoors. We pick a family-friendly movie, families bring chairs and snacks and enjoy some time outside!
3rd-6th graders get to roller skate during gym! The PTA rents skates for all 3rd-6th graders, and Mr. Winter instructs the students (with help from parent volunteers!)
A day of end-of-year fun planned by the PTA and staff! Students participate in outdoor games (relay races, water sports, etc). About 30 parent volunteers get to help out!
The PTA organizes a monthly Fun Lunch and Pizza Lunch that parents can purchase for their children to have a special restaurant-food lunch at school, as well as bimonthly Treat Days (when parents can purchase a special dessert). Signup information will be provided by backpack flyer, Facebook group, Newsflash and Happenings - signups occur several times throughout the year.
During the first weekend of December, the PTA arranges an outside vendor to sell holiday gifts at Highland. Students can purchase items with a helper (High School volunteer or parent) and gift wrap while there.
This event occurs during Open House in the spring. Families are welcome to go to the Highland gym where all students can receive an ice cream/ice treat from volunteers.
This event happens every other year. All families are welcome to attend on an evening usually in March. Students can explore different stations pertaining to STEM, with games, activities and learning experiences.
All students are welcome to enter his/her art submission to this National PTA art contest. Multiple categories are available. After submissions are sent in, all applicants get a free pizza dinner before the local awards.
This committee organizes both Staff Appreciation Week and dinners for teachers during Parent/Teacher conferences. Staff Appreciation Week occurs during the beginning of May - the committee spoils our staff with meals, gift cards, thank you notes, etc to show how much we love our Highland staff!
This adults-only party is held at a local venue with food, drinks, trivia and more!
Very Important Person Day occurs during school once every 3 years. The committee arranges snacks and an activity for students and their VIP.
During Meet the Teacher Day, we welcome back children and families for the new school year!
This event happens every other year. All families are welcome to attend on an evening (usually in March). Students can explore different stations led by Highland parents to learn about different cultures.
Service Committees
Each child's birthday (or half birthday for summer birthdays) is recognized at the monthly all school meeting where they may select a birthday book provided by the PTA. This committee selects the books that the students get to choose from.
This committee creates the birthday bulletin board (outside the gym) celebrating all of the birthdays (or half birthdays for summer birthdays) that occur during that month.
The annual Husky Huddle is a community event where we can provide for a few of our fellow Highland families. Donations provide a full holiday meal to several families, and also necessities like winter coats, clothing and household essentials.
Throughout the year, this committee plants seasonal plants/flowers in the pots by the school sign.
The LRC Volunteer committee arranges volunteers to come to the Highland library to reshelve books. At least one per year, the PTA works with the school to host a book fair for students and parents. This is a great opportunity to purchase new items for your home library, or to purchase wishlist items for your child's classroom library or the Highland Learning Resource Center (LRC).
The Head Room Parent organizes all of the classroom room parents. The room parents organize the 3 class parties - Halloween, Winter, and Valentine's Day. The room parent will coordinate volunteers and inform the hosts of party guidelines. Room parents also organizes volunteers for field trip chaperones and act as the liaison between parents and the teacher for communications.
The PTA partners with a local company to provide parents the option of ordering school supply kits (rather than purchasing the items individually). Ordering occurs in late spring and kits are shipped to the school with a pick up event in August a few days before school begins.
Highland spirit wear (t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, etc.) can be purchased through a vendor throughout the year. Our current vendor is 1st Place Spiritwear, and you can shop at https://tinyurl.com/HighlandSpiritwear. The committee lead handles correspondence with the vendor. The lead also organizes ordering the PTA-provided Highland T-Shirt to each student at the beginning of the year. These are kept at the school and worn for all-school assemblies and field trips throughout the year. At the end of the school year the shirt is sent home with the student.
A PTA volunteer compiles an annual yearbook filled with class pictures and highlights from the year. Yearbooks are available for purchase each spring and are distributed at the end of the school year.
Student Enrichment
This in-school program allows parent volunteers to pair up to teach students about famous artists and lead the classroom in a project related to that artist's technique or artwork. Signup for this program typically occurs in the fall, with visits scheduled throughout the year. The committee lead coordinates with the art teacher and organizes the sign-up for parent volunteers.
The Reading Games Liaison's job includes working with the district committee to organize the event, making sure our school is informed of deadlines, writing questions for the event (or finding others to write them), and volunteering the day of the event.
This committee communicates with the contact to participate in the Kane County Cougars Reading Club. This 8-week program is available to all students who participate in our One Book One School reading schedule. Students will receive a free game ticket, free food and drink.
Every year, the PTA committee works with the librarian to choose a book, which every family receives for free. There is a family kick-off event one evening, with activities related to the theme of the book. The whole school is encouraged to read with a given schedule.
The PTA council runs this math enrichment program. Students receive their first math packet at school, and once complete, during specific times, the packets are checked at the library and the student receives prizes and another math packet. The committee coordinates with the council and arranges volunteers.
