Clerk and Starter:
Blank Heat Sheets If filled out by Start Clerk, "run" to Timing Captain who inputs results, "run" to results recorders. The Finish Clerk may also fill them out at the finish line before "running" to results recorders.
Timing/Finish Line:
Finish Judge Sheet Requires experience and focus. Judge and record finish places by lane. May override hand times in placing and scoring within a single heat.
Non-Lane Event Finish Sheet Used by timing captain to record names/schools in order of finish. Two button timers will be used (second is used in case of close finishes as called by lead timer). Stopwatch timer used as backup. Stopwatch timer will share "unofficial" times with participants. Extra timers will assist in lining up participants in order of finish.
Laned Events (events run in lanes entire race): Timers each time one lane. If button timing, timing captain will share times with participants and confirm names from heat sheet. Timers will assist in keeping athletes in lanes.
Field Events:
Results Recording Sheet (Shot, Disc, LJ/TJ)
USATF Vertical Jumps Recording Sheet
Track hand timing 101:
If the timing system is manual (like HP's button system), all times must be rounded to the slower tenth and only recorded in tenths. FAT (fully automatic timing) is recorded to the hundredths. Standard conversion from hand time to FAT is to add .24. As an example, a hand time of 28.01 is rounded and recorded as 28.1. Converting to FAT makes it 28.34 (quite a bit different than 28.01). Something to keep in mind for PR's, qualifying times and what you might be shown at the finish line with a stopwatch.
