Task 1 uses chest X-ray images from the MIMIC-CXR dataset. In Task 2, chest X-ray images may be used as optional evidence for verifying and correcting causal explanations. Participants who use MIMIC-CXR images in either task must obtain individual authorization from PhysioNet.
To request access:
Create a PhysioNet account and complete the credentialing information in your profile.
Complete the CITI Program Data or Specimens Only Research course by following the PhysioNet CITI instructions.
Download the full CITI training report, not the completion certificate, and submit it through your PhysioNet training page.
After your credentialing and training are approved, sign the Data Use Agreement for MIMIC-CXR or MIMIC-CXR-JPG.
Participants should apply early because approval may take time. Access is granted individually: MIMIC-CXR data and account credentials must not be shared. Every team member who accesses or handles the images must obtain separate approval.
Participants without MIMIC-CXR access may still participate in Task 2 under a test condition that does not require image evidence, subject to the official Task 2 dataset and track definitions.
For current requirements, refer to the official PhysioNet instructions.
