brake safety week 2023
GIVE ME A BRAKE!
Brake Safety Week
08.19.2023
Brake Safety Week for Professional Truck Drivers is from August 21-27, 2023. During my research, I have seen some sites listing the 20th to the 26th, but the 21st to the 27th is what is on the official CVSA website.
Brake Safety Week is an annual event organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) to promote brake safety among commercial motor vehicle drivers. During Brake Safety Week, CVSA-certified inspectors will conduct extra inspections of brake systems on commercial vehicles.
The focus of Brake Safety Week is on brake linings and pads. Inspectors will be looking for missing, non-functioning, loose, contaminated or cracked parts on the brake system, and non-manufactured holes (such as rust holes and holes created by rubbing or friction) and broken springs in the spring brake housing section of the parking brake.
Inspectors will conduct inspections and identify and acknowledge commercial motor vehicles that do not have critical vehicle inspection violations by affixing those vehicles with a CVSA decal.
Brake Safety Week is a reminder to all commercial motor vehicle drivers to check their brakes regularly and to make sure that they are in good working order. By taking steps to ensure that their brakes are safe, Professional Truck Drivers can help to prevent accidents and keep themselves and others on the road safe.
Here are some tips for Professional Truck Drivers to keep their brakes in good condition:
Check your brakes regularly. Inspect the brake pads and linings for wear and tear, and make sure that the brake fluid is at the correct level.
Avoid overloading your truck. Overloading can put extra strain on the brakes and shorten their lifespan.
Drive smoothly. Abrupt stops and starts can put extra wear on the brakes.
Avoid driving in wet or icy conditions. These conditions can make it more difficult to stop, and can increase the risk of brake failure.
Get your brakes serviced regularly. A qualified mechanic can inspect your brakes and make sure that they are in good working order.
By following these tips, Professional Truck Drivers can help to keep their brakes in good condition and prevent accidents.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Randall.
