Call for Papers

We are witnessing a growing number of applications carried out by robots in close collaboration with humans. This new generation of human-friendly robots will need to be safe and trustworthy in a physical and cognitive sense. New paradigms for the holistic development of collaborative cognitive robots need to be envisioned and experimentally validated. The benefit of humans and society is the central objective of such research effort and existing opportunities are arising from different application domains such as healthcare and high-tech systems.

The International Workshop on Human-Friendly Robotics (HFR 2023) will be held on 20-21 September, 2023, in Munich, Germany and is a single-track symposium that aims at bringing together academic scientists, researchers and industry to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects related to the introduction of robots into everyday life. The workshop covers a wide range of topics related to human-robot interaction, both physical and cognitive, including theories, methodologies, technologies, and empirical and experimental studies.

Instructions for authors

Call for Papers

We kindly invite the submission of paper contributions (maximum 15-pages, single-column, in PDF format).

As peer-reviewed archival publications, all accepted contributions will be indexed. Accepted papers will be published in the Springer Proceedings in Advanced Robotics (SPAR) with Series Editors:  Bruno Siciliano, Oussama Khatib.

Please submit papers via the Easy Chair Platform (link below) in standard Springer Proceedings in Advanced Robotics (SPAR) format, which is available at this link with the Latex and Word templates. The authors' guidelines for the preparation of contributions come with templates.

Important Dates

The initial manuscript submission deadline is 1st July 2023, Anytime on Earth (AoE).

Accept/Reject decisions will be made by 1 August 2023.

Call for Extended Abstracts - Late Breaking Results

We would also cordially invite you to contribute a Late-Breaking Results poster to HFR 2023. Similar to the Late-Breaking Results posters at previous HFR events, the submissions are 4 pages in length (single-column, PDF format) with a separate-quick acceptance-decision process and presented at the HFR as posters.

Since Extended Abstracts are NOT considered publications, they will NOT be submitted for inclusion in the HFR Proceedings.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRESENTERS

There will be two types of presentations: a 10 min talk (+5 min for questions from the audience), or an interactive poster session. At least one author per paper must present at the conference. Presenters will use their own laptops for the presentation.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

We would like to especially encourage women and young researchers’ participation, in order to support gender balance in robotics and the promotion of early-career researchers to present themselves to the community.
