Where It All Began

I started this website as an experiment in web development after I attended a training session on creating Google Sites at the TCEA annual convention in February of 2018. I thought it would become a place I could post my thoughts in a blog or catalog the projects I was creating, but it evolved into my master's level e-portfolio and my chief form of creative expression. The name Hero City EdWorks is itself the evolution of a childhood dream of one day starting my own comic book imprint (Hero City Artworks). It seemed only reasonable that I adapt the name to fit my true calling, sharing my educational insight and experience through instructional technology and a love of pop culture. During the COVID1-19 shutdown of 2020, my wife and I began collaborating on distance learning projects, and it felt only natural that this become a shared space for all our creative educational endeavors.

About Kevin

My name is Kevin Stahlecker and I am a lifelong Texan. I grew up in Angleton, which is about 40 minutes south of Houston, and I currently reside in Willis, which is 40 minutes north of the city. My wife, Catherine, is an amazing elementary music teacher, and we have two brilliant children. Our son, Madden, is 13 and his sister, Caroline, is 6. They challenge and inspire me everyday.

I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology in 2006, and earned my Master's Degree in Educational Technology Leadership from Lamar University in 2019. In August, I started my 15th year of in teaching for Conroe ISD. I am currently serving as the Instructional Technology Coach and Principles of AV Instructor a Stockton Junior High. Previously, I taught Exploring Technology for 4 years and 7th/8th grade history for nine years while coaching football, track, golf, and tennis at the junior high level. Outside of school, I am an avid reader and collector of comic books, and a huge fan of superhero movies. I enjoy spending time with my family which usually includes planning regular trips to Walt Disney World or cosplaying (dressing up as fictional character) at comic convention. About Cathy

Catherine was born in Norman Oklahoma, but moved to Waco, TX when she was 5 years old. She grew up in a very musical family and spent many family gatherings singing along with her dad and uncles as they played guitar. In addition to her life-long love of singing, she has played the flute since Junior High, and marched in both the Waco High School and Sam Houston State University Bands. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from SHSU in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and has gone on to earn several Kodaly and Orff certifications. She has worked primarily as an elementary music and art teacher over the last 13 years, except for a stint as a stay-at-home mom, but loves sharing the joy of music with learners both young and old. Outside of school, she shares in the family obsessions with Disney World and cosplay, but really enjoys her quiet time, when she can watch Grey's Anatomy uninterrupted. You can email Cathy at c.stahlecker@gmail.com and follow her on twitter @HeroCityCat.
