We intend to design a payload of subtle difficulty for our mechanized arm. A spherical payload is the goal. The idea is that by creating a sphere with flat sides, we can create a general and robust mechanism to lift a variety of shapes. It is a technically difficult challenge presented in a simple package. Considerations include the smooth, curved surfaces, and the faces to balance on. Our mechanism will have to act precisely to ensure a smooth motion.
We completed our payload design and displayed it as Figure 1. In Figure 2, its 2D dimensions are displayed as 1.45 in x 1.45 in. Our payload design has a mass of about 11 grams and a volume of about 1.52 cubic inches shown in Figures 4 and 3, respectively.
