Women's healthcare and research is severely behind. Everything from seatbelts to drugs are mostly tested on men. This is why it is common for women to get random side effects from commonly prescribed medicine. It is also more likely for women to die in a car crash since seatbelts are made for men.
Shocking, right?
We actually know so little on women's bodies that we are constantly misdiagnosed, mistreated and overlooked by medical professionals. I'm sure you've all heard the same spiel: "Drink more water, you're on your period, you might be pregnant, you have anxiety, you have depression, it's just hormones."
It is not just mood swings and changing hormones. You know when something is wrong with your own body, and you should never have a medical professional dismiss you just because you are a woman. I've heard about too many lives lost due to misdiagnoses and ignorance.
This. Must. Stop.
There are many ways to combat this global problem. Sharing the stories and voices of women from every corner of the world is one way. Giving unique accounts and true experiences will not only make a personal impact, but will also raise awareness and create a strong community that cares. Compassion, words, perseverance and hope can go a long way. But to make an unbreakable community, we need your unwavering support and interactions. We need to share this message before we share other women's stories.Â
A big impact must be made with a big community, big support and an even bigger passion. We have the passion, we have the drive. Now all we need is you. Yes, you. You can help us make a change, no matter how big or small. Get the word out, share these accounts, tell anyone who will listen. Women have suffered too much for too long, and it is time for that to come to an end.
