Bill-of-Materials refers to all the items that are used to create a sub-component or a product.
Nomenclature: In our items library we use the following prefixes to identify items:
PR- = this is a "product", most items that a customer or wholesale customer can purchase are listed with this prefix.
SUB- = Sub-component. This means that we have processed or partially assembled materials or other items into this component which will be used to create a final product.
HW- = Hardware. This refers to anything from a simple Flat Head Truss (FHT) screw or screw post (POST) to Modwings (which, while technically sub-assembled are tracked in inventory as single items --- not each component separately)
RAW- = certain raw materials. Materials like 093 plastic or shockcord may get listed as RAW. This means the item in it's pre-cut state.
PRECUT- = when we trim down raw material into a set size we call that a 'precut'; these are occasionally used as stand-alone items. These are also sometimes listed as "Make Or Buy" because we can either purchase them already cut or we can trim RAW sheets down to this size.
Most of our products use a layered BOM/Routing setup. This may start with a PRECUT or RAW material that gets a "stock prep" operation. This precut then gets formed, trimmed, buffed, folded, etc., assembled, test-fit and packaged.
You can find the BOM and Routing on the 'Production' tab of an item:
Step 1: Create a "TRIM" from the "PRECUT" item (Routing operation: Shell Form - Mill 3)
Step 2: The term "SHELL" generally refers to a finished, folded (if needed), buffed and ready to assemble holster shell. (Note: this "shell" uses the "TRIM" and some 8-8 eyelets)
Step 3: Many of our PHLster products have a component called an "Assembly" - this is a shell that gets assembled (see other hardware listed above) and will then be ready to test-fit and package
Step 4: Final step for products is packaging. Note: this product is an "assembly" (full assembled holster) packed in a black bag with a PHLster label.
