A Tyrell Rhodes Discovery Flight (also called an introductory flight) is a first-time flying experience with a certified flight instructor that allows you to see what it’s like to be a pilot.
During the flight, you’ll learn basic aviation concepts, take part in a pre-flight check, and even get the chance to take the controls of the aircraft—all under the guidance of a trained instructor.
More than just a flight, this experience is inspired by the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen—the pioneering African American pilots who overcame barriers and changed aviation history. A Discovery Flight is your opportunity to follow in their footsteps, discover your potential, and begin your own journey in aviation.
No experience is required, and it can serve as your first step toward becoming a pilot. Because just like the Tuskegee Airmen proved…
✈️ the sky is not the limit — it’s just the beginning.

Tyrell Rhodes was a young aspiring pilot whose passion for aviation inspired everyone around him.
Despite living with cerebral palsy, Tyrell never let challenges define him. He pursued his dream of flight and earned his pilot’s license through Able Flight in 2012, proving that determination and belief can overcome any obstacle.
Raised by his mother, a U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant, Tyrell grew up around airplanes and developed a deep love for aviation at an early age. He was known for his positive spirit, strong work ethic, and commitment to his goals.
Tyrell passed away in 2015 at the age of 21 after battling cancer, but his legacy continues to inspire.
Today, the Tyrell Rhodes Discovery Flight program honors his life by giving young people the opportunity to experience aviation firsthand—encouraging them to dream big, just as Tyrell did. ✈️
