You can create routines for making the lights brighter in the morning, reporting the traffic for your daily commute and playing your favourite songs -- basically automating all the things you would usually do anyway.
Routines can make your day easier and more productive. Alexa can perform several actions [or Skills] that you group together in a single routine that you can trigger easily.
There is an entry under "Amazon Info" on this topic as well as the extract below, from a CNET article, that gives a little more details.
1. Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone and tap the menu.
2. Tap Routines.
3. Tap the plus sign that says Create Routine.
4. Select When this happens and choose how you want to trigger the routine. These are your options:
5. Type in something like Good morning or Goodnight. This will be the word you say to Alexa when you'd like your Echo device to begin a routine.
6. Tap Add action and select everything you want Alexa to do during this routine.
With Routines, you can automate a series of actions (e.g. turn on the lights, play the news and turn on the coffee maker) using a single command. To create a Routine, go to your Alexa App and select "Routines" from the menu. Then, just ask:
Tip: To modify or delete a Routine, go to the Routines section in the Alexa app. Choose a Routine listed in the Enabled section to make your changes.
You can also access FreeTime customizable pre-configured Routines to set up most common daily recurring routines for your kids.
Note: Some features like News, Traffic, Calendars, and push notifications aren't supported on Echo Dot Kids Edition or other FreeTime on Alexa enabled devices.
