This account introduces John Helmick (1628). Abraham Lincoln Helmick also alludes to the family settling in Jamestown.
It claims Jacob Helmick (1748) is the son of Jacob A. Helmick (1712), citing the Henckel Geneology (see below.)
It cites the Index to Land Deeds where Jacob purchased 100 acres of land on South Branch from Lord Fairfax on March 6, 1780. This happens to be where Helmick Rock is found.
In the footnotes, the Fairfax sales is further cites "Early Records, Hampshire County, Virginia," privately printed by Clara McCormick and Laura Lago Jones, Delavan, Wisconsi, 1939.
The Henckel Geneaology referenced above established Jacob A. Helmick (1712) as the father of Jacob Helmick (1748) and the son of John Helmick (1682) of Jamestown.
In Fansler's Historuy of Tucker County, Phillip Helmick is identified in a photograph with the third Fairfax Stone, marking the boundary of Lord Fairfax's property line. This photograph would have been taken anytime after 1885 when the stone was placed. The 1954 Charles Henry Ambler West Virginia: Sories and Biographis history book incorrectly captions this as the original Fairfax Stone (below).
