At the Beginner or Elementary level, a person will already gain some basic knowledge of the language. They will be able to understand when someone speaks slowly and clearly, express their thoughts using simple and common English phrases to handle everyday situations and specific questions. They’ll also be able to describe themselves, read and translate simple texts, write basic letters, and fill out forms.
Also known as the Way-stage level. After completing this level, learners will gain reasonable confidence in speaking English and will have a vocabulary of at least 1,500 words, along with a basic understanding of English grammar. They will be able to read simple texts and understand their general meaning.
At this level, learners consolidate the knowledge gained in previous stages while expanding their vocabulary with more advanced and sophisticated terms. They typically know around 2,500 words and can construct clear and correct sentences both in spoken and written English. Grammar use is generally accurate. They can fill out forms, read fiction and a variety of newspapers and magazines, and communicate in writing with native speakers without major difficulties. This level also provides solid language skills for travel or working in an international company.
This is the next level after Intermediate. At this stage, learners can distinguish between regional English accents, speak comfortably in both formal and informal settings, and begin to recognize their own grammar and pronunciation mistakes. They understand and use both simple and complex syntax, and can express their thoughts clearly with few errors. Vocabulary typically ranges from 3,000 to 4,000 words. At this level, learners speak and understand English with ease.
At this level, learners can speak fluently on a wide range of topics with only a limited number of errors. They are able to adjust their communication style depending on the context and are familiar with idiomatic expressions, phrases, and common word combinations in English. They can write narratives, reports, articles, and summaries of films, books, and events. Their vocabulary typically ranges from 4,000 to 6,000 words.
