Learning vocabulary

Baamboozle.com

It's easy to create for the whole group a game. The student can also test himself.

The question-answer pairs entered into Baamboozle are scored by 5 to 25 points, and in the classic game, the students compete against each other. The thrill of the game is that earned points can sometimes go to another team, for example!

Try Baamboozle with Swedish verbs by pressing Play game. Select 2-4 teams to compete and select Classic.

I personally use this one time for a whole class game, or give groups iPads to work with and they can play the game at their own pace. So if you log in and create a public game, anyone can play it with the link.

Gimkit

is a great application for playing with vocabulary. You can create a limited number of gimkits, but I definitely recommend testing! You can play the game live with everyone or assign it for homework . Try the role of a student with a German lesson.

The fastest way to create a Gimkit is to import the words from another application (Quizlet, Memrise, Glosor ...) and click Create with Flashcards. The application generates questions for you with different options (see picture below). Then you can also edit the words as much as you like. For each question, select either Multiple Choice or Text Input.

When the created Gimkit is played, the teacher chooses how much students have to earn to win the game. The best part I think is that the students want a big sum to make the game last.

Memrise is a glossary application that can be used on all types of devices. It requires login from both the teacher and students.

A word list is created for the pupils to learn. See pictures how the app looks like on phones. The application first teaches the words that have been created for the list. Different activities are used to test the learner. The application repeats words that often go wrong.

Quizlet

is a useful vocabulary training application that works both in a browser and in the app. A variety of activities allow students to practice vocabulary and, above all, play to learn the words.

See an example of Quizlet here:

Listen and Learn Vocabulary: Flashcards.

Train vocabulary: Learn and Speller.

Take the test: Test

Play: Scatter / Space Race

Play with the whole group: Live

You can create your own "sets" or search for pre-made quizlets by others using the search function. Students can log in if they wish, but they can also be told which keyword to look for quizlets. Mostly sets of different book series are named after the title: "Book title and paragraph number".

NB! Other phone models require the phone to be horizontal, with the search box visible!

Live is available to teachers and can be played if at least six devices sign in to the game. To log in, students go to quizlet.live and log in to the game with the code provided. The program divides students into different groups where they collaborate on the words. Students need to decide who has the right answer to the question on their phone. If someone answers incorrectly, the points go to zero ... Worth a try!

Create a Wheel Decide from your own list of words and apply it in your teaching.

Use for example for vocabulary learning in group or pair work.

You can use this to translate a text, Wheel Decide tells you which sentence of the paragraph needs to be translated.

Write down the vocabulary you want and share it with Wheel Decide students, for example as a QR code.

If you log in with your Facebook account, for example, you can save your creations.

Students, too, can do these for each other.

Here's how to make your own Wheeldecide:

Go to wheeldecide.com

Click Modify Wheel to type in your word list.

Add a title.

Press Advanced Options to edit other settings.

Under "Remove choice after it is Landed on", you can choose whether to delete the words that have already appeared or whether the words remain visible all the time.

Color Theme lets you select the color you want.

Adjust the spin seconds and the size of the lucky wheel.

Finally, click on the Apply Wheel and you're done.
