About Laura Heflin

For 20 years, I have had the privilege of serving students and families as an educator. Throughout my career, I have taught grades 3, 4, 5, and 8, and I currently serve as a gifted education teacher. My work has taught me that strong communities are built through listening, collaboration, and a shared commitment to supporting growth and opportunity.

As a teacher, I have worked alongside parents, community members, and educational staff to solve problems and create opportunities for students. I have learned the importance of bringing people together, considering different perspectives, and making thoughtful decisions based on the needs of the community. These are the exact values I will bring to the Archdale City Council.

I have called Randolph County home for 20 years and have lived in Archdale since 2019. My husband, daughter, and I chose Archdale because we wanted a community where our family could grow—a place with great schools, strong community connections, and the convenience of being close to larger cities while still maintaining the small-town character we love.

We love that Archdale offers the best of both worlds. There's a creek in our front yard and a farm in our backyard—a daily reminder of the natural beauty that makes this community so special. Our daughter can ride her bike through our neighborhood, and we have the peace of mind that comes from living in a place where neighbors look out for one another. From beautiful parks and green spaces to community events that bring people together, Archdale has been a wonderful place to raise our family.

During the challenges of COVID, I saw the strength of Archdale's neighborhoods firsthand as people supported one another from a distance and found ways to stay connected. As our daughter has grown, our family has continued to experience what makes this community so special. We've spent countless hours at Creekside Park—playing on the playgrounds, walking the trails, celebrating birthdays in the park shelters, and participating in community events like Run 5 Feed 5 and the End of Summer Bash. We've also cheered on our daughter through volleyball, swim lessons, and other activities that have connected us with so many local families.

We've embraced the traditions and everyday moments that bring Archdale together. We attend the Archdale Christmas Parade, support our local FFA through the annual plant sale, cheer from the stands at high school performances and sporting events, and enjoy the simple tradition of trick-or-treating with our neighbors. These experiences have shown us the pride, generosity, and community spirit that make Archdale such a special place.

We also enjoy supporting the local businesses and events that give Archdale its unique character—from the Bush Hill Festival and food truck rallies at Bonnie Place to weekend brunch at Carolina's Diner, frozen yogurt at Nattie's, and conversations over lunch at Chat & Chew.

The more involved we've become in our community, the more I've come to appreciate what makes Archdale special. That's why I'm running for City Council—to help preserve the qualities we love while planning thoughtfully for our city's future.

Decisions made on City Council today will impact our town for the next twenty or thirty years. As a local teacher and mom, I’m invested in Archdale’s long-term future. I want to make sure we are planning proactively—investing in smart infrastructure, vibrant spaces like Bonnie Place, and opportunities for our youth—so Archdale remains a place where our kids want to stay and raise their own families. 

I am running for Archdale City Council because I believe we have a unique opportunity to build on what makes our city special. Together, we can:

• Welcome responsible growth while actively protecting our small-town character.

• Invest in our neighborhoods, stormwater management, and essential infrastructure.

• Create meaningful opportunities for our youth and teenagers.

• Ensure Archdale remains a place where families want to stay and thrive for generations.

I look forward to bringing my experience as an educator, my perspective as a neighbor, and my deep commitment to community service to the work of building Archdale’s future.
