Cove Walking Football Club
Cove Walking Football Club (CWFC) has been in existence for 5 years and is an FA registered Walking Football Club. Currently we have 108 members on our books and the minimum age to play is 50. Our average age across all members is 69 and we have 2 members in their early 80’s. We also participate in a number of leagues for the more competitive amongst us. These include:
Middlesex
Surrey
Thames Valley
There are national competitions that CWFC participates in and every year we send a couple of teams to Spain to participate in European competitions. We also play in local, informal friendlies and charity games to raise funds for local charities. These leagues usually have different age categories to ensure an equality of fitness. These are:
Over 50’s
Over 60’s
Over 65’s
Over 70’s
Our playing sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10.30am until 11.30am and Mondays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The format is usually 4 teams of 6/7 players, with the teams playing each other during the hour. Each game lasting about 15 minutes, with a break at halftime. Membership in £5.00 per annum and £4.00 per session. When the sessions are finished, many of the members retire to the Cove Football clubhouse for tea/coffee and biscuits.
Much is made about the benefits of activity and social engagement into old age. Walking football provides comradeship, social activity, aids physical and mental health wellbeing and a general feeling of belonging to a local community of like-minded people. The charity activities also contribute to local good causes. We organise social events during the year, where members can bring their families.
We are always very happy to welcome new members from the age of 50 years and above. Therefore, if you want to improve your physical and mental health and participate in a friendly game of football, please come and join us.
