If you are a counselor and want to bring the Healthy Planet Chellenge to your school, you are in the right place!
You only need to subscribe to your educational center and put it on our map. At the end of the challenges, you are going to report the development of each student. After this, the school council will need to select the three students that stood out the most. In this way, we are going to reward them with virtual medals and awards from our sponsors.
Also, our students are going to receive a certificate of participation.
Climate Science is going to send a 5 minutes video talking about the 5 most important problems for the environment and the 7 steps to make a strong solution. After that, it is your teacher's time! You are going to choose one problem and bring a solution with your class. You can separate the class in groups or do it all together, it is up to you! However, in high school, they are going to have the ClimateScience Olympic - where students will need to bring a solution with the help of the internet answering 3 questions in pairs.
The first step to make a strong change is awareness -- be it about climate changes and what’s going on in the world scale. To do so, we are going to do a partnership with Climate Science Charity.
Students will need to bring to school some objects that probably are going to trash on their houses and transform it into something usable. In our site you can find ideas of people that participated on “Challenge to internet” in categories about what you can reuse and each step in videos to transform!
Reuse. It is going to be the second step! Before recycling, it is essential to evaluate if the item is really trash, in other words, it is unable to reuse. It’s possible to reuse towels as floor wipes or soda cans as a pencil holder. Be creative and reuse 2 items.
Each class will need to have two laystalls made by students. However, you can think bigger too! If there is space in your school, you can put it in the entrance hall or around the campus.
Recycle. It’s important to give the correct destination to all kinds of waste solids. In this way, the third step is to develop two lay stalls -- recyclable and the organics. You can do these lay stalls in a card box or with another material, and write the kind in front of them. After doing it, recycle 5 items!
The students will need to do this exercise at home, however, the teacher has the mission to explain ways to economize water, energy and food through the infographic that there is on our website.
Reduce. Water, food and energy are important resources to our lives, also they are related to each other. In turn, the fourth step is to analyze the expenditure of one of these features of your house from previous months, ask yourself if the account decreased, increased or remained and why this happened. At the end, gather these why's and decide the best way to manage this resource.
Same thing! Go to school by foot and after it, convert on our site the quantity of carbon you prevent to go to the atmosphere.
Tip: When you go to school, enjoy and appreciate the nature that is in your city for our next challenge.
Exercise. One of the most responsible for the greenhouse effect is the burning of fossil fuels. One simple solution is to change the car by a bicycle when you need to go out -- or you can do it on foot. So, the fifth step is to go to work, to school, or anyplace by bicycle or foot.
To stimulate the school spirit, the classes will need to work together and choose places to plant the trees. A group can plant in the school, in a park and others can research the place where homeless people live ;-)
To plant. Plants feed on CO² and release oxygen during the photosynthesis process, thus helping to combat the greenhouse effect. Thereby, go to an open place in the field - this could be your backyard - and plant a fruitful tree. After it, you will need to go to our website and put on map the local that you plant, the quantity and the kind. In this way, you can see the trees in your city!
The change of your habits is only the beginning of something larger, the last step is to teach a person about climate change and encourages you to take care of the world as well (and to participate in the challenge!).
Just have a good time and network talking about what you learn!
Awareness. Changing habits is just the beginning of something bigger. The last step is to raise awareness among friends or family about climate change and encourage them to make a healthier world too!
