Welcome to the Ingham County Health Department AmeriCorps State member site. This website has all the resources and tools needed to make your service term successful!
Commonly known as the “domestic Peace Corps,” AmeriCorps is a national service program governed by a federal agency – the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) – and administered in Michigan by the Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC). AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects Americans in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve with nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based and community organizations. Since 1994, AmeriCorps State members have provided needed assistance to millions of Americans across the nation.
The Healthy Homes Restore Corps uses ICHD State AmeriCorps members to serve their communities through direct service and training. Members achieve that by facilitation of housing workshops, distribution of weatherization resources, and engaging community members in one-on-one counseling assessments to curate a healthy home environment in the Greater Lansing area. Also included in that scope are Shiawassee, Clinton, and Eaton counties as well. Another facet of programming looks at reviewing the regulation of local renting practices for tenants across the region and finding ways to connect with landlords and tenants to create better stewardship and mitigation strategies for health hazard prevention. Members work to establish community partnerships and excel County housing initiatives by leveraging volunteers to creating registration lists for families to receive housing focused resources in the areas of Asthma/Allergens, Accidental Injury, and Lead abatement. The overall goal of the Healthy Homes Restore Corps is to increase housing-related knowledge, improve community relationships, and foster a better understanding of how the effects of your living environment affect your health and well-being.
