Introduction of Spirituality in Higher Education (HE)
Higher Education (HE) has often been neglectful of the inner lives of students.
HE has increasingly emphasized "outer" aspects of student development.
Inability for students and student affairs educators to differentiate the concepts.
Foundational beliefs about education came from the principles of understanding the "self".
The inner development of students could include:
self-awareness
emotional maturity
values and beliefs
moral development, and spirituality.
Note: "Spirituality, faith, belief, and religion-...these concepts are used interchangeably" (Patton, et al. 2016).
Fowler on Faith, It "is our way of finding coherence in and giving meaning to the multiple forces and relations that make up our lives..." (Patton et al. 2016)
