Jolyne Kurihara
Danced From: 1993-2013
What they're up to now: Jolyne Kurihara here! I began dancing at the age of three. Growing up in a supportive dance community, the amazing experiences and countless opportunities have shaped me who I am today. Now working in the banking industry and as a small business owner, I am forever grateful to my mentors, family, friends, and especially my parents, Joyce and Gary, for being my biggest supporters.
Closing words of thanks: To Miss Cathy, Miss Elizabeth, Miss Molly, Miss Keri, Jaja, and all the alumni I looked up to growing up—thank you for everything you’ve given me over the years. Being invited back to perform in the anniversary concert is truly a blessing and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Alyssa Wijnveldt-Faletogo
Danced From: 1994-2005
What they're up to now: I am now a mom of 2 girls: Rio and Ravi. We live a beautiful life here enjoying the simple things. When I’m not chasing my girls around, I love to train MMA with my husband, Jordan and watch his up and coming fighters. All thanks to God for our wonderful life.
Closing words of thanks: Big thanks to Cathy and the HDS staff who shaped much of my early years.
Minnie Quan
Danced From: 1994-Circa 1998
What they're up to now:Minnie Quan (aka Min) started dancing with UPTOWN Dance Crew and HDS in 1994. After stepping away from the light as a dancer in 1998 to pursue her education (Masters in Social Work and clinical therapy), she stepped back into the light not as a dancer, but as an actor in 2013. Over the years, she has worked on local, national, and world wide commercials as well as TV and film. Her work on Magnum P.I. earned her a spot as a SAG-AFTRA member in 2018. Some of her work can be seen on Amazon Prime and other streaming services. Min is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this 40th Anniversary Celebration!
Closing words of thanks: Where do I even begin?!? Cathy was always gentle and kind, however, she was very strict. I remember doing the prayer circle before every performance and I remember her eyes…they were filled with absolute joy!
Cathy, thank you so so much for taking UPTOWN girls in as your own. I wish I could’ve taken your classes but I know my parents couldn’t afford it so I didn’t even asked. I still think very fondly of those days at the studio…dancing like fools then wiping down the mirrors and sweeping the floors! I don’t think I could ever repay you for your generosity and grace you have shown me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!! ❤️
David Izumi

What they're up to now: David Izumi started as a Dance Works baby with Uncle Dingo and Aunty Marie. He performed with HDS until 2005. After graduation, David lived in Japan and California pursuing music and videography. He is currently a light designer at Rock-a-Hula. He is married to his wife Shaz and they have two children.
Kelcie Nagata
Danced From: 1994-2004
What they're up to now: Kelcie started dancing at 3 years old and continued dancing at HDS and other studios until college. Later, she moved back to Hawaii and currently works as a Deputy Attorney General. Kelcie still loves dancing at every chance she can get.
A fond memory of dance: Dancing with HDS and BDH helped to shape me both as a dancer and as a person. Everyone at HDS and BDH throughout the years taught me that it's important to be disciplined and cognizant, but also fun and outgoing.
John Izumi Jr.
Danced From: 1994-2026 (still teaching)
What they're up to now: Dance saved my life. HDS/BDH taught me who I was and helped me find my voice. There are not enough words to thank all my teachers and entire dance family there. You all have shaped who I am and helped me find, nurture and share my true purpose in this life.
A fond memory of dance: When I was a little kid used to love watching the older generation rehearsal and try to pick up/learn the choreography. It was inspiring to see how much passion and fun they would have dancing.
