Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2023 is "Invest In Our Planet". Earth Day serves as a conscious reminder of how fragile our ecosystem can be, and how our actions can have positive or negative consequences on the world we live in. As a group committed to making a positive impact in the world, the HCSD Service Learning Team hopes you will get involved. Check out how our schools are celebrating Earth Day, and keep scrolling for awesome resources and links to local events so your family can continue to make positive changes for our planet.
The Green Ambassadors will be selling tomato plants for $5 each before school from Monday, April 17th to Friday, April 21st. All proceeds will benefit Let There Be Light International, a group that provides solar lights to millions of people who do not have reliable access to electricity and must often rely upon polluting and dangerous fuels like kerosene. These solar lights particularly help students, elderly members of the community, new mothers, and people with disabilities. Donations or any amount are welcome, and checks must be made out to Let There Be Light International. Look for the pre-order form that will be coming home with your child, and please see Mrs. Bautista or Mrs. James with questions.
