Call for Art Celebrating Hayward 150 Years


Registration is open now HERE, and closes on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, or until we reach a total of 50 artworks, whichever comes first. ONE ARTWORK PER ARTIST.

 

Venue Location: Hayward Area Historical Society Art Gallery, 22380 Foothill Boulevard, Second Floor, Hayward, CA
Gallery Hours: Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Show Dates: Thursday, February 12 - Friday, June 12, 2026

Reception: Thursday, March 12, 2026, 5:00 to 7:00 pm at HAHS

Online Submission Dates: December 3, 2025 until February 1, 2026

Art drop off: Monday to Wednesday, February 2 - 4, 2026, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Art pick up: Monday June 15, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

 

This exhibition will also be shown at the Hayward Public Library Gallery afterwards, and some pre-selected artworks will be stored at HAHS until the Library exhibition opens. Artists will have the option to show their work again, or pick it up on June 15 at HAHS.

 

Library show dates: Wednesday, August 5, 2026 - Monday, November 9, 2026

 

Media: 2D art only: Drawings, paintings, digital art, collages, poetry, and illustrated written word.

 

Instructions:

For 2D artworks: Frames are preferred or painted on the edges of the canvas to add a finished look to your work. The maximum size of artwork is 30" wide x 40" high. All 2D artworks must be ready to hang using D-rings and wire attached ⅓” from the top.

This exhibition is open to ALL artists, and there are no entry fees.


No insurance coverage for loss or damage applies. Every artist assumes the risk of exhibition. Artists are required to verify this by agreeing on the Entry Form releasing and holding harmless the City of Hayward, Hayward Arts Council, Hayward Area Historical Society, its Board of Directors, employees, and volunteers from and against any and all liability for any and all damage to or loss of artwork on display, and for copyright infringement(s) in the distribution and publication of photographs of artwork for purposes of the "Celebrating Hayward’s 150th Anniversary” exhibition. HAC reserves the right to curate the final artworks to be exhibited. No nudity, images of violence, or political or religious artwork will be accepted.

 

Artwork can be sold but cannot be removed from the exhibition until the show closes on June 12, 2026. Art sales will be conducted by the Hayward Arts Council, which retains a 20% commission on all sales made during or because of the exhibition. HAC will collect and pay the appropriate sales tax to the state. Payment for sales will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the June 12, 2026 close of the  "Celebrating Hayward’s 150th Anniversary” exhibition. HAC will be responsible for exchanging artwork with the buyer.

 

Publicity will be provided by the Hayward Arts Council and Hayward Area Historical Society. Images of artwork may be used in social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. In addition, images will be used in the HAC monthly newsletter. Artists that provide their social media platforms will be “tagged” during the exhibition.

 

Guidelines:

        One artwork per artist.

        The theme is Hayward history - related artworks in a variety of media. Inspirational historic photos can be found at https://haywardareahistory.catalogaccess.com/ or by contacting archives@haywardareahistory.org.

        No 3D art will be accepted for this show.

        Attach a label on the back of your artwork including your name, title of the work, media and price (or "NFS").

        All 2D artworks need to be original. No canvas prints. The size should not exceed 30" W x 40" H, including the frame. All artwork is framed or neatly painted on the edges, and must be ready to hang using D-rings and wire attached 1/3 from the top on the back of the artwork.

        Artists can bring a one page bio for the gallery binder. 

        A jpeg image at least 600 pixels wide, and screen resolution 72 dpi or higher must be uploaded in the online Submission Form. No blurry images. This jpeg may be used to promote the exhibition on social media and monthly newsletter.

        Space is limited. Registration for this show closes on February 1, 2026

 

Conditions:

        HAC and HAHS reserve the right to display the final artworks to be exhibited. No nudity, images of violence or political or religious artwork will be accepted.
