Formative (Assessment for Learning)
This assessment occurs during the investigation phase of the project. It allows the teacher to monitor students' understanding of Earth's systems and provide feedback as students identify and define the climate-related problem they will solve. The information gathered informs students' design decisions in later activities.
NESA Outcomes
ST2-SCI-01:
"Uses information to investigate the solar system and the effects of energy on living systems." (NESA, 2024)
EN2-CWT-02:
"Plans, creates and revises written texts for informative purposes, using text features, sentence-level grammar, punctuation and word-level language for a target audience." (NESA, 2022)
Formative (Assessment for Learning)
This assessment provides ongoing feedback during the planning and design phase. Students apply their scientific understanding to justify a proposed solution before constructing their prototype. Teacher conferencing and peer discussion support students to refine their ideas.
NESA Outcomes
ST2-SCI-01:
"Uses information to investigate the solar system and the effects of energy on living systems." (NESA, 2024)
ST2-DDT-01:
"Uses a design process to create products to address user needs or opportunities." (NESA, 2024)
EN2-CWT-02:
"Plans, creates and revises written texts for informative purposes, using text features, sentence-level grammar, punctuation and word-level language for a target audience." (NESA, 2022)
Formative (Assessment as Learning)
Final Project: Summative (Assessment of Learning)
Students evaluate their prototype against the success criteria, use peer and teacher feedback to improve their design and reflect on how effectively their solution addresses the identified climate challenge. This work sample demonstrates the revision process before the final submission.
