Premier Racing is a speed skating team based out of Haygood Skating Center in Virginia Beach. Our team is comprised of both inline and quad speed skaters of all ages and skill levels. Founded in September of 2018, we have previously competed under the names of United Teams of Virginia (UTV), Hampton Roads Speed Team (HR Speed), The Rolling Warriors, Omni Speed Team, and Piedmont Racing.
We are chartered with USA Roller Sports who is recognized as the National Governing Body (NGB) of competitive roller sports by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). We are based out of the Southeastern Region which also includes Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.
We are one big family, but we do require skaters to take this seriously and to always follow instructions to keep everyone safe. This is more than just skating fast at session and does require technique/skills that we will teach you. Our skaters compete at the regional level as well as the national level with some aspiring to represent Team USA at the world level.
When you come to practice, we ask that you bring a helmet, a water bottle or sports drink for hydration, and your skates. If you do not have skates, you may borrow a pair from the rink for the duration of practice. If we have extra helmets, then we will be able to provide you with one to wear during practice as well. We require all skaters to wear athletic tie up shoes for exercising and warm up purposes. It is very uncomfortable and unsafe to warm up and exercise in flip flops, sandals, slip on shoes, loafers, slippers, and Crocs. Athletic shoes provide comfort and assist with preventing injuries during exercise.
Safety is our absolute number one priority at practice and at meets. Any skater who does not follow our rules will be asked to immediately exit the floor and remove their skates. One of our coaches will meet with the skater (and a parent if the skater is a minor) and explain what the situation is and what the importance of the broken rule is. In the event the skater returns to another practice and does not follow the rules, he or she may be asked to leave practice and could be asked not to return in the future.
