Why Go?
First and foremost, because I love Jesus.
My heart’s desire is for all people to know and encounter the Jesus that I know. We the church are called to build God’s kingdom here on earth, to go into all the nations bringing the gospel to every nation and tongue, tribe and people.
As I prayerfully considered what my last “free” summer before completing my degree should look like God challenged me with the question, “Why not work for me?”
Why go? Why not.
Where he leads me, I will go.
Isaiah 6:8: “I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me.”
As I explored different mission internships my prayer was this: God I will go where you send me, I will say yes until you say no. Open the doors you want me to walk through and close the ones you don’t. In your wisdom show me what is good, what is better, and what is BEST.
God in his faithfulness swung the door wide open for an internship with Converge Global Missions and placed Togo and the 6° ministry on my heart.
Togo is the Voodoo capital of the world and the roots of the slave trade run deep. The culture is deeply influenced by animism and fear of the spirits. From the 17th to the 19th centuries Togo was a major center for the transatlantic slave trade earning its shores the nickname "The Slave Coast". The aftermath of this has left Togo as one of the poorest countries in the world with people living on less than US$1.90 per day.
Yet, God is moving. The church in Togo is a city on a hill, a light that cannot be hidden. Today, over 29 churches have been planted within the 6° network.
