The ability of humanity to take flight in 1903 inspired me to pursue mechanical engineering, harnessing the concepts of lift and thrust to conquer the sky. Aircraft have been a part of major history ever since they were discovered in 1903. In wartime, they have been used as bringers of death, dropping weapons of mass destruction, and at other times, they are the bringers of life, with their ability to provide medical care in remote places. As if to come full circle, my dad served 4 tours in the Middle East with 3rd LAAD. His purpose is to shoot down aircraft such as drones, which I hope one day I will get the chance to build, maybe just for the enemy to destroy the flying machine, just as my dad did.
Three years into Highschool I have maintained my GPA as a 4.0, and by the end of this year, it will be a 5.0. SAT training will be rigorous, and I hope to get an exceptional score on it. Math will be the biggest roadblock, but the choice I made to double-block math, taking both Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus, should help me get ahead of the curve on the SAT and ACT. In my senior year, I plan to take AP Physics to expand my knowledge of calculating velocities and understanding how objects interact with each other, including air resistance and gravitation-related effects. My first year of engineering has also proved very useful to me, as I was able to obtain certifications for a variety of tools and equipment. All certifications are posted on my website, accessible by navigating to any sub-page.
I have participated in Jv baseball consecutively for 2 years, showing my commitment to hard work and discipline in the game. It also allows me to practice multitasking being a student-athlete, needing to train both physically and mentally in order to have the student-athlete title. This year, I will join Key Club to expand my already growing number of volunteer hours, which currently is over 50+. I plan to gather leadership positions as well to qualify for NHS.
Upon Graduation, I will not be joining the military as my father did, but instead will go to community college for 2 years at Southern Maryland College, transferring over in my third and fourth year to UMD and finishing my education. Contemplating factors such as proximity to family and money, another good opportunity would be to go to Texas A&M, a high-class engineering academy, which would provide me with job opportunities straight out of college. In addition, there is a grant that entitles military dependents to qualify for free tuition if they are accepted into such a school. Suggestions such as going to a trade school have been brought to my attention; nevertheless, I believe that it would be beneficial to receive a college degree instead of going to such a school.
Later in Life, I hope to inspire the youth to explore the world around them as well as to think of new inventions, even if it seems silly. I also hope that in the future I can achieve or invent something as revolutionary as when man was able to conquer the sky in 1903.
