Co-President Karen Martins
Hi! I’m Karen Martins. My husband, Pedro, and I are the parents of 4th grader Emma. I was raised in Florida by a public elementary school teacher, and Pedro grew up in Portugal. We are grateful to be a part of a school that celebrates diversity, bilingual education, and community.
This is my third year on the PTA board and I look forward to continuing to lead initiatives that drive family engagement and enhancements to Hawthorne’s learning environment.
Co-President Daniela Trice
Hola amigos! Hello friends! I'm Daniela Trice, a proud Hawthorne Hawk parent to Valentina (4th grade), Victoria (2nd grade), and a future Hawk, Viviana (4 years old). This will be my third year serving on the PTA board, and as a proud Latina raising bilingual and bicultural children, I hope to be a voice for families like ours. Hawthorne Elementary holds a special place in our hearts; it’s a welcoming and inclusive environment where the Spanish language and Hispanic traditions are not just valued but celebrated. I’m excited to serve and look forward to another fantastic school year! ¡Vamos a volar!
Professionally, I have a doctorate degree in physical therapy and we are the proud owners of two Louisville staples, Dairy Kastle and Cottage Inn.

I am a native Louisvillian and live in the Wellington neighborhood with my husband, Corby and three children (Lena, 3rd grade, Edy, 5th grade and Asa, Hawthorne graduate) along with our dog, Lincoln and gecko, Harley. I am a nurse in the neonatal ICU and labor and delivery where I have worked for over twenty years. I also enjoy coaching the Hawthorne cross country team and leading my daughters’ Girl Scout troop. In my spare time I love to read, travel, hike, jog and attempt win at the Wordle daily.
Vice President Kristina Estevez
Hello! My name is Kristina Estevez and I am excited to serve as one of the PTA Vice Presidents this year. I enjoy being involved with the school and all the great activities that Hawthorne has. I look forward to the new experiences that our students will be able to be part of this year. This will be our final year at Hawthorne Elementary. My daughter, Payton, is currently in the 5th grade and she has attended Hawthorne since Kindergarten. Payton is a very active student, and she participates in extra-curricular activities with her favorite currently being softball. Professionally, I work in the banking industry. Our family enjoys traveling, playing sports, and going to different events within the Kentuckiana area.
Vice President Amanda Ables
Hello Hawthorne! I am Amanda Ables and this is my 7th year as a Hawthorne Hawk parent and my 5th on the PTA Board. My son, Henry, graduated from Hawthorne last year and my daughter, Ava, is in the 4th grade. We have been continually impressed with Hawthorne’s stellar faculty and staff and welcoming environment. I joined the PTA because I truly believe that getting involved, doing your part, and connecting with others is absolutely the path to a community’s strength and success – and it’s a great way to meet other parents at school. We’re all excited for the new year – Go HAWKS!
Vice President Aldo McLean
I am Dr. Aldo McLean, father of Nina and Gia (5th and 2nd graders), and proud husband of Maestra McLean. I understand the challenges local and foreign students face, and I work hard always to foster community, and empathy between everyone involved. I enjoy roasting coffee, traveling, and family time.
Secretary Jennifer Alonso
This will be my 6th and final year as a Hawthorne parent. I have been serving on the PTA Board for the last 4 years. I am always liking for opportunities to become more involved in school-wide initiatives that impact our kids education and their school experience. I was born and raised in Louisville and am married to Mitchel, who is from Cuba and has lived in Louisville for 29 years. We have one child, Aiden who will be going into the 5th grade at Hawthorne. As a family we enjoy walking our dog Rocket, riding bikes, hiking, going to local community events or just snuggling up on the couch to the latest movie sharing a bowl of fresh popped popcorn.
Professionally, I am a registered architect practicing at a local design firm. I received my Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky in 2004.
Treasurer Rob Thompson
I'm a transplant to Louisville, arriving in 2020 just before the pandemic. My son, Bennett's first virtual year in Kindergarten and I joined the PTA navigating a year of limited events and virtual meetings. Now the proud parent of two Hawks - Bennett in fourth grade and Hannah in second grade. I've served as the PTA treasurer for the last four year. All three of my parents are teachers, so supporting education has always been important to me and I'm happy to bring the talents I have in business administration to the PTA. As I mentioned, I'm a bit of a transplant, moving around a bit before landing in Louisville to raise my kids. I've lived in Wisconsin, St. Louis, Connecticut, and Washington D.C. over the years. I am currently the manager of an operational business metrics team coming out of strategy consulting.
First Grade Representative Stephanie Franklin
My son, Rowan, is in 1st grade, and our family has been so impressed with the Hawthorne community since before he started Kindergarten last year. It is so important to me that each and every child and family feel as at home and supported as we do. That is why I wanted to join the PTA Board this year as the 1st grade representative. My husband, Devin, and I are both originally from Louisville, and in addition to Rowan, we have a younger son, Kieran, and a miniature poodle, Eloise. We live in Germantown, where we value the sense of community and all the local events, businesses and restaurants for us to enjoy. We also love to travel and exploring new places!
My “other hat” is working at Humana on our Health Equity and Social Impact team. I’ve also worked in politics and the non-profit sector. My husband is a Bullitt County Public School teacher, and we met while attending Centre College in Danville before I went to earn my Masters at The George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Third Grade Representative Robyn Smith
I'm Robyn Smith, a Implementation Consultant. My daughter is Taylor Derricho. Taylor is in 3rd grade this year. This is Taylor's second year at Hawthorne, and she's loves it!
This is my first year participating in the PTA. I was encouraged by a Hawthorne teacher last year to join the PTA. I'm a 3rd Grade Representative, and excited to be a part of the PTA.
