FESTIVALSOUTH ORCHESTRAL AND CHAMBER MUSIC ACADEMY (WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY)

Open to college and advanced pre-college string players. The Festival South Orchestral and Chamber Music Academy is a six-day intensive program that provides talented musicians the opportunity to develop, and enhance their skills as symphony orchestra and chamber ensemble performers while exposing them to great literature presented by very experienced conductors and players in the field.  Students will attend daily orchestra rehearsals and sectionals, chamber music coachings, and master classes from local and international guest faculty. Private lessons are also available for an additional fee.  For more information please visit www.festivalsouthacademy.com or email to festivalsouthorchestralacademy@gmail.com.

MILLSAPS COLLEGE SUMMER CHAMBER MUSIC DAY CAMP

This is a week-long day camp for string, piano, and voice students who are rising 7th through 12th graders.  It is designed to help young musicians discover the pleasures of performing chamber music with other young musicians who have similar interests.  Students will have the opportunity to work with Millsaps College faculty members while enjoying the supportive atmosphere of group music-making as they attend classes, rehearsals, and informal noontime performances given by the camp faculty.  Pianists and instrumentalists must have at least two years experience in private lessons, or instrumentalists must have at least three years of experience in an orchestra.  At the conclusion of the week, all student ensembles will present their work in an afternoon recital.  For more information please contact Dr. Rachel Heard, heardr@millsaps.edu, or call (601) 974-1420.

PREMIER ORCHESTRAL INSTITUTE (POI)—MADISON, MS

The Premier Orchestral Institute is a day camp for elementary, middle, and high school students.  The vision of the Premier Orchestral Institute is to provide its participants with a musical experience that will take them beyond the basics of “the right note at the right time,” to a level where they can listen to themselves and the group they are playing in as they make music.  Their goal is to provide an environment where the students experience the ways their personal work can contribute to a whole and in that way be part of something they could not accomplish individually.  In order to ensure a high quality experience for all involved, and to place players within the ensembles, auditions are a requirement for participation at POI in the intermediate and advanced ensembles.  For more information please visit https://msorchestra.com/education/
