This product has the perfect dimensions for a baseball hat. The bill of a baseball hat is just about fifteen inches. The eight inches allow for the shield to cover the face. The ~1/32 inch thickness allows the shield to be easily pliable with the use of heat while allowing it to be sturdier longer.
Polycarbonate is one of the many pliable plastics that are used for face shield. Polycarbonate was chosen for this project due to its unique ability to be opaque to Ultraviolet frequencies. This means that the harmful rays from the sun with cause skin cancer cannot penetrate the shield. This is extremely useful for people with occupations with large exposure to the sun. Below is a diagram found from this research. The red is circling the Ultraviolet frequency, from ~400 nm to ~100 nm. One can tell that the transmission in the Ultraviolet frequencies the transmission of light is 0% (opaque). It is important to note that this attachment is not a replacement to sunscreen protocols. Below one can also find a graphic of the electromagnetic spectrum and a statement about UV transmission through the Ozone from NOAA.
The shield is precut to the best dimensions and cut with various openings for the clips. These cuts will allow for the printable clips to fit in without users having to use drills.
