Free Science Show: Booking advised: ExploreDome "Voyage inside the brain". A fulldome celebration of the most complex structure in the known universe. A planetarium-like dome transforms into a giant brain to introduce basic neuroscience, how our brains work, the amazing things they can do and how to keep our brains healthy. We explore how the brain can change over our lifetimes and allow our audiences to discuss and destigmatise dementia.
Kindly supported by Alzheimer's Research UK and developed with neuroscientists from Bristol University.
Ocean Conservation Trust - coming from the Plymouth National Marine Aquarium, they wil bring with them plankton to view under a microscope and their virtual reality headsets. These are used in carehome settings supporting those who cannot visit the 'blue gym'. Evidence shows that virtual reality experiences of ocean scenes can improve mental wellbeing in care settings.
Ages: Suitable for all ages, oldest participant of 99 years of age
Debut exhibition: A Journey to organoids - supported by a grant from the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research, we will be showcasing the history of scientific and medical research and how animal research has led to many medical breakthroughs. More recently, animals in science are being replaced by human specific non-animal alternatives including stem cells, organoids, organ-on-a-chip devices and microphysiological systems. Come along to see and touch these systems.
Ages: Suitable for 4+; build your own organoid craft activity; view organoids and stem cells using a digital microscope
